- The Airport Commission has finally requested to see qtrly budget numbers starting in October. I only wonder if they will actually post them in the Board Minutes for all of us to see.
- The August vote to "rescind" the tax on the sale of fuel at ORH was changed to "suspend." I believe that the City Council still needs to vote on this.
- The Master Plan will be released late fall.
- No mention of IMG or how they are doing on negotiations with commercial carriers.
- No mention on the status of the name change.
- No mention on any discussions with MassPort, with less then 9 months left in the current agreement.
- The RFP's on the land parcels should be released in September.
Note page 3 "the Chairman allowed each Member to share their thoughts on the departure from the Worcester Market, and discussion ensure." What did they say? Although "discussion ensued", none of these discussions were incorporated into the minutes of the meeting.

If you were the BOD of an entity losing $175,000 per month, would you not want MONTHLY DATA and not quarterly financial data?
Also would you want to see actual data and not necessarily budgeted data?
Frankly, I would want weekly data and I would want it Monday for the week ended the previous Saturday.
What good is stale budgeted data 3 months (quarterly) after the loss has occured?
And after they get this data they will do what about losses??
Jahn:
Considering that the Airport Commission has never requested financial data in any other airport commission meeting that I have seen, a qtrly request is a big improvement.
Maybe they will even begin monthly?????

I did not answer your 2nd question--sorry.. What would they do?? I do not know, but I know that they will not do anything if they do not know the extent of the losses.
All I am saying is that based on the fact that they have finally asked to see the numbers, thats a good indication someone realizes it needs to be addressed..
Bill, if they have finally asked to see the numbers after years of bleeding.......my question would be.......where have they been for all these years???
How can you be fulfilling your duty as board member if the enterprise you're charged with overseeing has been burning through taxpayer money for a number of years while you, as the board, have given tacit approval by inaction?
Yes, I know they're volunteers.....BUT....we've got a few businessmen on that board...which I think is great...so I am surprised it has taken all this time for the board to ask for financial data.
If they read the T&G or visit this site they probably know the extent of the losses ???
After re reading my post, I am not picking on anyone or any board here...just ranting about wasted money while I read about Councillors getting into cat fights about insignificant Baloney
Jahn:
It is asking alot from volunteers to turn around the airport and I am not picking on them either. At the same time, if you want to be on the Airport Commissionat an airport losing 2,000,000 per year, the first thing you should want each month is not only the budget but an analysis of the expenses to see where you can save monies.
For now lets just be happy that they have finally decided to see the number and we will see what happens.
Maybe I s/b asking..............what authority does this commission have?
I always read of open board/commission posts that go unfilled...............maybe it's b/c people see these positions as unappreciated, overworked, no pay, and most importantly their suggestions go unheeded by those in power.
Take the Worc Mun. Reasearch Bureau........they made all sorts of noise about out of control health ins costs for 10 or maybe 15 years before anyone did anything about it.
Jahn:
I do not know the answers to your questions, but I can tell you this. It is not the volunteer Airport Commission Members, who put together the Airport Board Minutes.
Publicy board minutes, that record the thoughts of Members on an important issue as to what they thought about the departure of Allegiant from ORH, with an entry that "discussions ensued" is not right. Whoever is repsonsible for the minutes needs to have an explanation on the Public Open Meeting Laws.
If I was a Board Member, who expressed his thoughts, and then read the official minutes to see no mention as to what I sais--I would feel unappreciated??
