Legacy Carrier for ORH

My favorite airline consultant, Mike Boyd, may be right again:
http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2006/06/04/business-tllowcostcarriers-06-04.html

I think it has been great having Allegiant to Sanford and lets hope they start flying to another Florida destination, like St Pete's. Lets take the remaining DOT small community air grant monies and go after Delta Connection, Mesa, to fly a JFK-ORH shuttle 2 times per day.

Here is part of the story:

And there's not much airport officials, or local politicians stumping for service, can do about that, said Michael Boyd, a Colorado-based aviation consultant. "You can wheel in Sen. (Chuck) Schumer all you want," Boyd said. "It's not going to change the economics of the airline industry."

Sustained high oil prices, stiff competition on their best routes and wider expansion have eroded discounters' traditional advantages, Boyd said. Meanwhile, the legacy airlines have shed a lot of fat in recent years and are poised to be healthier in the long run, he said, with deep route networks and international service that can connect local travelers with more destinations.

For Stewart, that means JetBlue or AirTran might not be the panacea some hope.
"What you really want to focus on is Northwest to Detroit, and Delta to Atlanta or Cincinnati," Boyd said. "Places where you can connect to the rest of the world."

Every reason to stay miles away from Boyd and his team are in this post. He's a dinosaur.

You simply cannot make money as a major flying RJs to hubs without having high fares. If there are high fares that require connections the people of ORH will go to BOS and PVD, pay less and fly non-stop. and we will have ANOTHER failed carrier at ORH.

Worcester: You've been on this merry go round with the majors before and lost. Why would you get on it again?

Where have you been??? Boyd, in my opinion, is the best. Not just by what he say, but his results with the DOT Small Community Air Service Grant and his ability to help airports attract airlines.

Besides, not disclosing who you are (make a name), you never make a suggestion. Fine, we have Allegiant what should we do next?? What airlines do you propose that we should ask to come to ORH and fly direct??

You are right is a Delta Connection comes here with a high fare to JFK, it will fail. What if a Mesa Air came in with a good price on a twice daily shuttle to JFK? We have never had this ever at ORH!!!

Anonymous, why not enlighten us all and tell us the next airline that we should approach??

Can you also enlighten us as to the status of the Master Plan?

Thanks

If getting an air service grant is the objective...then yes, hire Boyd.

If the objective is to turn ORH into the economic engine it should be, then stay away from Boyd.

Regarding what to do next. The potential answers are out there. I cant share all of them on this forum though and Im sorry for that.

I will say this. A Skybus / DJ Air like carrier having a focus city in ORH would be highly successful for all involved.

Let me get this straight you believe in 1) targeting an airline that does not exist (start-up). Then 2) hope it gets the monies needed to launch. Followed 3) the underlying new airline getting FAA approval. Finally 4) hoping this new start-up airline makes Worcester a focus city.

Somehow pursuing a Mesa Airlines,
Delta connection, to fly a shuttle from ORH-JFK at competitive rates make a whole lot more sense to me. Call me a dinosaur.

Lastly, it is guys like "anonymous" who wait around for a Master Plan or for some "start-up" airline to make ORH an economic engine overnight that has put ORH in the position it is today. "Anonymous", why can't you share the potential answers on this forum?? Will you have to kill us,if you do?

"Anonymous" you take the time to chastise others, but can not share your answers in this forum. Very funny. Lets hope you are not making any of the key decisions in the future of ORH.

Please do not apologize. I just wont be posting here anymore. Im not trying to be spiteful or anything...it's just that I have better things to do than be baited & chastised by people like this. Goodbye.

Emerging Airlines & Anonymous:

Don't worry no apology coming... Emerging airlines what is factually incorrect?? DJ Air and Skybus and start-ups that are not even close to get their first flight off the ground.

Emerging Airlines, tell me what airlines should we target now that anonymous , who could not share his insight anyhow, will no longer be joining us?
