Projected Cost of ORH

I just caught a budget meeting of the City Council on local access. The projected costs are as follows:

  • ORH next fiscal year is $1,600,000 (32% of the operating deficit and 100% fo debt service)
  • MassPort will pay $1,500,000 (68% of the operating deficit).

If we did not have MassPort next fiscal year, it would cost the General Fund $3,100,000. In other words the airport is currently losing 258,333 per month or $8,493 per day!! IMG recommends that we should extend the current agreement?? I believe that the airport has potential, but July 1st will mark the beginning of the 6th year partnership between MassPort and the City of Worcester. Sorry, but this is not working.

SELL ORH

FYI--Since September of last year this blog has had 52,212 page loads.

If these #'s are correct, this is newsworthy. How come we don't see this in the newspapers?

Tired of the let's wait and see scenario. I can see possibly 6months to a year max to accumulate data for a Master Plan, but 2+ years!. I think people are jaded even more so than usual. Will Councilor Rosen's questions be answered at his requested August deadline. Will the fall final Master Plan meeting answer any questions we haven't aleady heard? I think the taxpayers have had enough. I hope i'm wrong and secretly an announcement of 1 or 2+ airlines have agreed to come to ORH. Instead of paying IMG more $,an announcement stating said $ to go to outfit the unused restaurant space to attract willing restraunteurs to take a chance of opening an aviation themed diner.
