Press on the Airport

Still a little surprised and confused about the press coverage regarding the airport. The extension of MassPort to continue the subsidy for another 6 months was portrayed as a good thing and that somehow we would be saving money since there is a subsidy. In actuality, the extension only continues the past 8 years of poor performance 6 more months and will cost the tax-payers approximately $540,000.

Also surprised that there was not more of a reaction from our City Councilors????

We are facing a large budget deficit and one of the savings calculated was the fact an agreement was going to be reached, Worcester would not be in the airport busines and we would save some money. Nothing changing means that we do not save any money and budget deficit is not reduced.

Typically when you do not make a decision say buy a car or buy a house, it does not cost you money. Not making a decision on the future of ORH and putting it off another 6 months, although we are getting a subsidy (68% of the operating deficit) continues the bleeding at ORH and will cost the tax-payers of Worcester approximately $540,000 the next 6 months.

I know not closing the sale or lease cost Worcester money. I don't understand why both the city and Massport didn't do more to finalize the deal for 7-1-07. You would think if Massport is willing to put up more money for another 6 months it must be interested in it.

Summer is here. How much can we expect to hear in the next 2 months. Some of these councillors are busy ensuring their re -election, esp after the 84% pay raise. This may come back to nip some of them, given the citys financial house of cards. Too many jokers in that deck
