No offense to Bernadette Peters, star for opening night at the Hanover.
It eerily reminds me when Judith Light came for the grand opening of the Worcester Fashion Outlets. I am even got an authographed picture from her.
I would have gone to see the group that imitates Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis like the one they have out in Vegas and New ZYork City. Maybe not a headliner extravaganza, but I think for Worcester they would fill the seats.

Deja Vu...circa March, 1983.......Frank Sinatra opens the Worcester Civic Centre......to great fanfare.........and years of red ink......now 25 years and millions of taxpayers dollars later and 3 names (Centrum & now DCU Centre)........we have a private company (succesfully??)running the place.
Did Union Station and the new airport terminal open with similar fanfare, dooming them to failure?
Nice to see a local developer has bought up the Old Fine Arts Theatre with the intention of creating another theatre venue.
Maybe we can become a performing, fully clothed, fine arts mecca?
Should be interesting to see if the council opens up the city coffers for this project, as they did for the well heeled, well connected Hand It Over Theatre.
Jahn is predicting the hand outs to the Hanover are not over yet. Jahn, it appears, is 0 - 1 for Hanover prognostications, assuming the place does open time.
Please do not wait for anything to happen at the old fine arts theatre. The developer Mr lahoud has charmed our illustrious city leaders into believing he is the best thing for Worcester.He screwed
up the old temple on Providence St.
has spent years taking peoples money for space in the Heywood building and not delivering and has two liquor licenses approved one for Union Station and one for the Heywood building,and has not opened a thing.He is perfect for Worster all talk and no go.Maybe they will run him for Boston Ed's Senate seat.
I hate to speak badly about anyone on the blog but Mr Lahoud's tack hisotry does speak for itself.
Keep on thing in mind that according to the Secretary of State the only manager listed is Richard Rizzo is First Olympia, so do we know if Mr LaHoud is truly part owner??
Worcesterite...............that's what I thought too when I read the piece about the Fine Arts i.e. .....that the huge brick building on Winter and Harding Sts had, as I recall, some issues with the permitting folks.......didnt know there were money issues, too.....of course sometimes issues with Worc's permitting dept's are more political than real........

Heywood Building had all sorts of ceases and desists orders and eventually it ended up in Housing Court. I do not believe not even one occupancy permit was ever issued.
There was, however, a huge variance given on parking that was opposed by the people who owned Presmet. Needless to say they were not too happy that it was issued. Doubt that helped they to stay in Worcester, and they eventually closed the plant.
Also heard the Temple had all sorts of issues, but the guy who tok over (Sweeney) has done a good job trying to resolve many of the problems left behind...
As far as the Fine Arts goes, I do not believe he has any equity in the building. I could be wrong.
This is the same guy, the City of Worcester is going to float a $700,000 to build out space for him in Union Station?
I would have rather seen the Divine Miss M that saucy ol' gal.
