I went to http://www.airfleets.net, Mesa has 16 Dash8-200. It is a turbo-prop that can seat up to 39 passengers. Seems like the perfect size plane for the ORH-JFK shuttle?
U.S. Airways Express utilized the Dash-8 when they flew 3 daily flights to Philadelphia for quite a few years. The service would have remained if it was not for September 11th.
The time for Massport is now. Not 397 days from now. Airlines left prior to 9/11 too . Massport needs a vested interest to support ORH. They were intially here to support ORH until it got on their feet. We need to decide. We've had 5+ years to think this over. Massport like a good bond rating will lend credibility to the airport and the city of Worcester.
If you were renting an apartment in a three decker and you knew the landlord was going to have to sell the building (in 397 days)and you might want to buy, would you make any improvements to the apartment or building? I wouldn't, neither will MassPort.
Any improvements you make would make the building look nicer to competitive bidders and the price itself would be inflated by the owner through the improvements you yourself made. MassPort was here initially, as Jim said, to support not do all the hard work. Over five years, we have not done the work that we needed to do-not MassPort's fault either.
Lastly we may have lost service because of 9/11, but other airports have been able to get back on their feet. Starting negotiating now with MassPort to sell ORH.
MassPort true ownership will do alot more to make ORH a success then a name change.

Great analogy Bill. Now what can we do collectively to enhance this process.
Better to be proactive now. Massport will weed out the apathy.

The current administration is apathy personified.
