South Worcester Industrial Park Update

Remember earlier in the year, when a parcel of land on the Canterbury and Grand Street was awarded to Pharmasphere? Click here to read the article from the Telegram this past January. Their bid of $1 won over a $50,000 bid of an abutting manufacturer, since the long term potential was seen as being better and they would move quickly starting construction in March.

Today is August 14th and the terms of conveyance, a fancy way of saying working out the details once the award is given, have still no been signed although the underlying RFP required this to be done within 30 days. Even when the terms of conveyance have been signed, there is an additional 90 days allowed for the actual deed to be signed. In other words the parcel still has not been conveyed.

For full disclosure, I am biased on this since I thought the abutting mfg deserved the award since 1) they were an abutter and was 2) paying $50,000 versus $1. Putting that aside, this parcel should have been transferred by now earning tax revenue for the the City of Worcester as the terms specified or the RFP should have been redone.

The first four words of the article explain the delay:

A Start up company....

The abutter should submit a $10,000 offer on the property.

The abutter, an existing successful business, submitted a bid for $50,000?

Things have changed since they submitted their $50,000 bid.

Specifically, the winning bidder defaulted on the terms.

$10,000 sounds reasonable to me.

Sad news, Mass Tire on Chandler Street is closing at the end of the month. I've been going there for 25 years supporting the urban core but the likes of BJs , Sam's Club, etc have taken their toll. :-( Anyone who is running out for tires this tax free weekend stop by and send these guys off right...support small businesses, even if they are going out of business!

Harry:

Take a look at this bid. You have a guy, Absolute Machinary, right here in the City of Worcester abutting this parcel who bids 50,000 to expand his business.

He loses to a company that really does not even exists, who bids a dollar. This company that bids a dollar who was suppose to start construction this past March, has not even take title to the parcel.

Maybe the City of Worcester should support Worcester businesses as well?

I have to wonder if Pharmasphere is tied into the states bio-tech initiative and has connections in Boston and will receive free state money if and when Devals bio-tech initiatives are ever realized.

this is exactly what happened at the expense of an existing abutter who bid $50,000 versus $1

Lunchtime!
Oh, the Smith comments. Big deal Bill.
Hiding behind a clown face. Pay attention to my words, not my face.
If my comments are politically incorrect. Well they’re intended to be.
Nothing I say is intended to be taken seriously.
And you shouldn’t take yourself too seriously.

Maybe you think what I post is insulting. That’s nothing compared to the horrendous and ludicrous behavior of elected officials in the chambers of city hall.
Hey I’m acting like a clown - the councilors are clowns.

I can understand that you are trying to establish credibility with this site.
You’re probably thinking everyone at city hall is checking your site to get the latest feedback from the blogging electorate. Yeah, from all 5 posters.

You obviously don’t realize it, but the councilors don’t give a toot what the electorate thinks. The majority is in it for personal gain. The rest… who knows.

What I don’t get Bill.
Melican – the notorious Haller baiter- shows up and goes ballistic and you let it go.
But when I post an innocuous remark about Smith, you freak out.
Is it because you have an issue with Haller and her ilk?
Did someone say hypocrite?
