New England Regional Air Study Plan

Remember this?? Click here if you do not. This was one of the three reports that we were waiting for the last three years, along with the $100,000 report from IMG and the Master Plan from Leigh Fisher, now Jacobs Consulting. Now that I mentioned it, we have never seen the final Master Plan??? Ironic isn't it that we will most likely see the Master Plan after ORH has either been leased long-term or sold to MassPort?

The reason I bring up the New England Regional Air Study Plan is that the airport in Chicopee was not even one of the eleven airports even considered in the plan. It just goes to show you that waiting around for reports to be done by consultants is not a recipe for success.

Although I am extremely disappointed that Skybus has picked Chicopee, we have to give Chicopee credit. An airport that I had no idea even wanted commercial service, and was not even considered in the New England Regional Air Study Plan was able to land Skybus. Kudos to Chicopee...

I would GLADLY go 40 miles west to Chicopee rather than 45 miles east to Logan.

The destination and flight times where a passenger has to stay overnight in Columbus and then get a flight somewhere else is not good. You may save on the flight costs and spend it on a hotel and spend two days to get somewhere. When are they going to have connecting flights?

Point is Skybus and Chicopee have a foundation to build on. Bill is right, kudos to Westover.

Worcester had its chance with Allegiant.

We need leadership like Rockford

Any secondary struggling airport like ORH is not going to get great times and connecting flights. You have to start somewhere, like Steve said, and Chicopee has picked a well capitalized start-up like Skybus to grow with.

Not only was this a coup for Chicopee, but along with Portsmouth already on board, no chance we will get Skybus to ORH.

So what happened? Did we talk to them?

Not to change the subject but kudos to Chicopee/Sprinfield. For being one of the most economically depressed areas, this is a major shot in the arm to them.

I have no idea if we talked to them. If you want call the airport liaison and/or airport director, ask them and post what they tell you. I can not see, however, see how with IMG we did not.

We would all like to know.

Thanks

I did call. All they could tell me is "there has been, and continues to be, discussions with numerous airlines involving City and Massport staffs and administrations; and any airline that could be on anyone's list is also on our list. We update our potential opportunities all the time. However, we are not able to disclose specific names at this time."
