I realized the other day that the parent company for the Telegram is not going to charge for either the Boston Globe or NY Times on-line edition, but they are going to charge Worcester. Does this make sense? In other words they will use the Telegram as their trial and see what happens.
Robert Nemeth at the controls piloting the T&G is a surefire way to crash the local newspaper into a rocky hillside high atop Tatnuck Square. He did the same as chairman of the Airport Commission. Crashed and burned the entire airport with his God like, non transparent, know it all attitude about how the airport should function.
The OP is correct, the T&G blogging community has taken a hike. Some will celebrate the demise of these knuckle draggers. The T&G should be careful. Like our relatives, we cannot always chose our customer and reader base.
This will all work out just as the Worcster pilot payment program has. A collosal failure.
Outside of wrtitng a sunday column, I don't believe Robert Nemeth has anything to do with the T&G anymore. Bruce Galtney and Leah Lamson are the "powers that be" at the paper now.
I am, as you know, not one of Bob Nemeth's biggest fans. Never forget him stopping by mo office, like he was the Godfather, telling me nothing is going to happen at the airport unless it goes through him. Then I had to explain to him what privatization meant and WiFi.
That said, I agree with Dave Z. Charging for the on-line edition had nothing to do with RObert Z Nemeth.

The NYT will be putting up a paywall early next year, though the publisher of the Telegram, Bruce Gaultney, has said that "This is not a pilot for the Times."
In short -- who knows?

Not surprised to hear Bruce Gaultney says this but if it looks like a pilot, smells like a pilot--well you know the rest.

There are at currently three people using my account information to access the T&G online.
At least their new process prevents many stupid comments from being posted.
