Amity Flight School
Bumped into a friend of mine who goes up to the Amity Flight School. He tells me that the building has very little heat and no water. Can anyone enlighten us on this???

There seems to be little heat, but there is water, after a frozen pipe was repaired last week.
The large hangar by Swissport had heat/water issues a week or so ago.
The large hangar by Swissport stills has no heat/water as well as the lighting is limited. The airport is in complete self destruction mode and no seems to really care!!!!!
I was up there the other day for service with Mass Aviation. They are really nice people, but the working conditions are deplorable. They have no bathroom facilities, The odor emanating from the building is distressing, and the frigid indoor temperatures make it almost impossible for them to conduct business.
Apparently Mass Aviation doesn't own the hangar or they would have initated repairs. Mass Aviation should contact whose responsibilty it is to maintain the hangars. No need to be in the cold especially on a day like today.
I am not being a wise guy but wouldn't the City of Worcester own all the buildings up at ORH and technically be the landlord???
Now that I think of it, the City of Worcester would definately own these buildings. The question would be who is responsible for these types of repairs the tenant or the landlord??
If the city is responsible for this then call the no heat hotline that the city building dept has, although they may tell you they only do residential heat?? They are at 25 Meade st.
The water should be a landlord problem and if the city is the landlord you must put their feet to the fire. Call customer service at DPW on east worcester St. and be certain they give you a work order number.
Landlords all over the city continually get badgered by this city building dept. for penny ante crap, yet they are unable properly manage/service their own assets?
If and when they arrive, have them condemn the old control tower, too.
Warning: It is now 215pm on a Friday afternoon. Some city offices may be ghost towns till Monday, although DPW does respond to emergency water situations very......well
According to the phone book, the airport has it's owm maintenance #.
Help could be just around the corner.

Pack the pipes in hay or leaves and cover with plastic. Mother nature's de-generating vegetation will produce enough warmth to keep the frost out.
I don't know about the hanger's, but the old tower building, which houses the Civil Air Patrol and the airport Police and Fire Dept. is deplorable. The plaster walls are falling apart, it's dingy, dirty and looks like it hasn't been maintained in a decade. It's unbelievable that they have people working in there 24 hours a day.
Bill, I was a student at Amity, as you know, and one of the reasons I'm not anymore is b/c of these unpleasant conditions. The tenants are apathetic about it, and if they won't fight for their comfort, how can anyone else. THEY should be taking pictures, making phone calls daily, and documenting this clear disregard for their personal health AND of their ability to run a business.
Glad it's about 85 degrees where I am today.
I was waiting for Tom to respond, thanks Tom. Two years ago I had some stupid idea that a group of citizens could somehow work together to help advance ORH.
Although I incorrectly thought a group of private citizens supporting a strong ORH would be welcomed by our Airport Director, Airport Liaison and Airport Commission (specifically Mr Nemeth), I have been able to meet some great people like Tom, Tim MacDonald and Harry Tembenis (never actually met) amongst many others from the blog (Janh, Brett, Doug, Wolverine,Youngstown amongst many many others) ...
Tom is a Worcester fireman and has complained about 1) not being able to be on a board like the Airport Commission as a City employee and 2) the deplorable conditions at Amity.... Now two years later he can serve on the board and others are starting to realize the conditions at Amity, and the other buildings are below par. In retrospect my idea was not so much incorrect, but maybe more a question of the people who it was sent not caring???
I hope people reading this realize that many of the things discussed in this blog that past two years are becoming a reality and that we make a difference. In the last week we have had Bob Nemeth and WoMag endorse the concept of giving up ORH to MassPort?? Did this blog make it happen?? No, but I do truly believe people now accept it as a good idea based on the efforts of this blog then any efforts by the Airport Director, Airport Liaison or Airport Commission.
Lets hope the new management structure effective 7/1/7 takes advantage of us versus trashing us. Consider this. The blog, since last September, has had over 110,000 page downloads and not once has the Airport Director, Airport Liaison or anyone from the Airport Commission ever posted an official comment... When you think about it, that is pretty sad.

I think that if the members of this blog ran the airport, it wouldn't be the dump it is now. I have seen a number of posts and thought, "Why isn't the airport doing that?" It seems like the city could give a rats @$$ about ORH. Nobody will want to have a business with a run down facility.
