Click here for NIck K story. Maybe we should move the DPW yards from this area? hey, South Worcester Industrial Park would be a great spot.

Just think, if Harvard Univ didnt want the site of the existing Allston freight yards, it is possible none of this would have happened.
IS SWIP area large enough area to expand? Sure beats building more NOLO housing there. What would Main South safety advocates say about this.
Can you say the Main South Community Dev'ment Railroad Corporation? Take a ride on the Main South Line, if you pass go collect $200 and also obtain a get out of jail card for free.
Local 170 has to be smiling about all of this. ALL those Boston Teamsters local jobs coming to Worcester now.
I wonder what UPS thinks about all of this? UPS is biggest user of that RR yard and is also the RR industry's largest customer. They would probably love a siding out in the SHrews/Grafton area closer to their terminal.
Anyone ever stop to think if this could affect air freight at Worc Airport?? CARGO ROAD OMG!!!
iSNT THAT DPW SITE well below the grade of the existing RR yard/sidings? I always had thought trains can climb only the slightest of grades as they travel. Witness the slight climb of trains from Union Station to the Summit area.
Maybe this doesnt hold for RR sidings, then again the site could also be filled to grade???
BTW, the fire dept is already concerned that the RR track crossing Franklin St will be blocked something like 6 times a day for 3(?) mins at a time and they are concerned about response time to the Umass/Lake Ave/Plantation St area if a train holds up a fire truck. Of course what they do not say is that many of their calls are for medical emergencies and guess what... UMass hospital is right there?
Where do the Umass ambulances operate out of?
Dont we access to that area via Washingtom Sq & Shrews St?
Can we get cooperative contingency coverage from Shrewsbury FD if need be?
I can just see it now, all kinds of opposition to industry expanding and operating in an industrial area and city councilors who will cow-tow to it for face time. First up will by Snow Shovel Phil and then Clancy.
God, We'd have a huge resource recovery plant behind St Gobain (industrial area) right now if the powers that be didnt run it outta town in the 1980's.
OT, but speaking of supermarkets, the Herald reports today that S&S workers contract expires tonight and sides have not settled
Herald also reports a 6th person has died as a result of last week ends fatal explosion in Middleton Ct. That's 6 men dead so far in an industrial accident. MY heart goes out to their families. That's all I am going to say on this topic. Comprende'?

You misunderstand. The land the DPW is on is quite valuable where is located.
Move them over to SWIP and free up this land.
