...and Emerald Isle on Millbury Street, too. On the bright side, the West Boylston Street D'Angelo's has a sign steering customers to go to the Park Avenue store, right in Paulie's Village of Piedmont... next dining destination of Woo, perhaps? EVO, Safari Cafe, Baba Sushi, El Basho, Haiku, etc, etc, etc?

National Envelope announced a closing too.

On a positive note, I have heard that a new store is moving into the Greendale Mall in the former Marshall's location and the Best Buy is still there in spite of their new location in Millbury.

Also, the Olive Garden at the Wal-Mart Plaza in Quinsig Village looks like their aiming for an opening before the holidays.

Maybe they see an opportunity to fill Sams Clubs shoes when the Sam's Club that is almost adjacent to the Greendale mall closes.

That was originally a Pace Warehouse club when it opened back in the early 90's. The Home depot structure on Gold Star Blvd was a Costco wholesale club. Both the Pace and Costco stores lasted only a couple/few years at these 2 respective sites.

The Pace obviously became Sams and the Costco became a Bradlees (I think) which became a HD.

Hey I saw TV news piece last night about the new shopping center being built at Rte 9 & 20 in Norhtboro.

New England Dev'ment is the owner and they interviewed a guy named Steve Karp. Now didnt NE Dev'ment and Steve Karp own Worc Center when it was the Outlets Mall? Did they sell it to Berkley or lose it to the bank?

Big Lots...not indicitive of high end residents....Ocean State Job Lot wants to go into the old Star Market on Broadway at the bottom of Winter Hill....I love the idea and own a property 2 minutes away..was with a bunch of peeps recently all opposed and pushing with the city for a high end market..one gal in the conversation states "Paulie, you have been in Worcester to fookin' long, whats with you"?....I gotta admit that I love Ocean State but it is not the anchor tenant you want for a Winter Hill that is re-emerging..yes another part of Somerville re-emerging..being revitalized..gentrified (Lt. Governor in the Ville last week at a fundraiser taking in big bucks)...I think I have become almost robotized to just being happy something is taking up a vcacant store lot..so now I say "We want Trader Joe's" and Winter Hill will get something of that quality cause the city and the hood are working together to push for this kind of developmenet.....meanwhile me and the Firewood Cafe sit here on Chandler Street with our collective fingers up our arses wondering when the city is going to ever resolve 224 Chandler Street...more trash on it now than ever before:>) Go Woo, City on the Moooo!

Technically Sam's Club is not closing. They are just moving to a much more visible and easier accessible location at the new Wal-Mart plaza in Quinsig Village.

Quite frankly Paul, I don't see a lot of difference between Big Lots and Ocean State Job Lot. They both pretty much appeal to the same demographic.

And doesn't Somerville have one of the original Family Dollar stores in Davis Square?

David, If the Greendale Sams Club instead moved to a much more easily accessible and visible location alone Rte 9 in Shrews or Norhtboro (where they actaully once were)........would that be considered a closing or a moving?

I get more concerend everytime I pass by St. Gobain in Greendale and wonder to myself, how much longer can they afford to stay in Mass. or the uSA.

Murray and Mcgovern almost had St Goabin pushed out of Greendale about 15 years ago. Geee I havent seen any photo opts of Mcgovern with nurses demonstarting over at UMass. $106,000 a yr pluisa full state bennie package for a 3 day, 36 hour work week and these Mass. Nurses Assn'n RN's crying........geeeeeesh.........

Fact is there aint the "green" in Greendale that there used to be.

Shelf live for malls in Worc seems to consistently be about 20 yrs, excluding Midtown mall, if that can even be called a mall.

Bill just tracks business closings in the city so if they relocated outside Worcester it would be added to his list.

When did Conte Bros. Tux shop on Shrewsbury St. close?

Sprout said...

Also True Value on Park Ave.?

David Z. said...

I believe the True Value on Park Ave. had their going out of business sale in September.

Bill Randell said...

The True Value closing has also been linked ot Market Basket wanting that whole block.

David Z. said...

Bill,

I thought Market Basket was rumored to be going into the Diamond Chevrolet location once they moved everything to Auburn. However it appears as though Diamond is now staying put in Worcester.

Bill Randell said...

dave

true value 100 yards from Diamond.

Rumor has it that Diamond is staying where they are until Market Basket buys that whole side of Park ave?
