- "America has not done enought to help the homeless"
- "Collapse of the housing market, was a lack or regulations" Whose fault was that? He was on the House Financial Services Committee, which he now chairs, that passess these regulations
- "there is not enough appropriate housing to meet the demand and not enough housing under construction". Evidently he did not drive around Worcester. Burwick, May Street, Mason-Winfield, Cambridge-Hacker, May Street, Piedmonth St, City Builders to name a few.
- “There is a shortage of affordable housing in the United States,”
- “One problem in building affordable housing is neighbors saying they don’t want poor people living near them,” he said.
- “The policy we have followed has so starved affordable housing and so diminished the resources available for the homeless that we’ve ended up in a situation where we’re pitting the homeless against each other. Shame on a society as rich as ours that allows that to happen. And I guarantee you that if we get the right administration, we will put an end to that.
Bottom line is Rep Frank does not think we have done enough regarding low to mod income housing and need to do even more...

I've lived next door to many poor for almost 7 years now...I'd be more than happy to debate ole Barney any day..first question I would ask is how long has he lived next door to the poor? Yah think he lives in Georgetown or in the hood with the brothers??
Just another do as I say not as I do cat:>)
I'd love to know where all of Worcester's proponents of the poor live..I rarely if ever see any walking around my hood after hours or on weekends.
Like I posted on my blog...I'd bet my mansion on Chandler that there were more future Barry Obama supportahs who tanked the Newton Hill wet shelter a few years back than future John McCain supportahs..anyone question this?
What Barney really means is he will ram more no-lo income housing down the cities throats to keep the burbs free:>)
my favorite line
"neighbors saying they don’t want poor people living near themImagine what Barney would say if there was a proposal to build a 25 unit building completely low to mod income next to his residence in Mass or DC. On the other hand Barney should propose it and set an example.
Yeah right. Why do that we he can keep dumpining on receptive cities like WOrcester.
If these non profit CDC's and Worc Common Grounds and SWNC's arent culled or closed down....there's going to be real hell to pay both financailly and socilaly in Worc..............it has actaully already started.....
Echoing all thats been said here before.........non profit builders are big, big business in Worc.
Bill if that City builders site is owned partly or entirely by private money, then I suggest it maybe years before any constr begins....just look at Mason St..........its private money ( partlyor entirely?)...and it was required to commence in Sept, 2005...which was the absloute height of the last building boom...............and it sits vacant to this day ....given current market conditions it will be quite a few more yrs before actaul costr starts there.........granted remediation has been done to the site.............but that was all McGovern'mint money....
like I said..I'd debate ole Barney on this issue any day and I'll match wit for wit:>)
Those preaching diversity rarely practice it:>)
proponents of no-lo income housing never speak of the added goodies that come with these projects..increased noise, increased grime, increased crime...sinking property values to others
I have no problem living next door to someone who makes less or more than me..I have a problem living next door to folks who do not pull their weight..perhaps ole Barney should have stopped by 224 Chandler Street before speaking..constant tenant turnover..shit all over the front and rear yards..no one works..so they have plenty of time to clean..have no desire to work since we are suporting them..
Ray Mariano has done a great job cleaning up the city projects-Worcester Housing Authority..but all of those that he kicked out just went into the neighborhoods and these same folks are now terrorizing the rest of us..
Better yet maybe Barney Frank should lead by example an propose a 24 unit low to mod income apartment building in his neighborhood that grants ecvery possible variance imaginable.
Franks and Beans !!!!!!!!!
Lets not forget that a single parent with 2 children making $44000 per year qualifies for affordable housing. That is $21.00 per hour.
A single person making $34400 or $16.50 per hour also qualifies.
These are not extremely high nor paltry wages. The fact is, in Worcester, in 2008, a single person making $16.50 per hour cannot afford to buy a market rate house or condo.
