Its Done

Finally. MassPort will be taking over ORH. We need to look at this two ways.

First, the commercial side. ORH will become a real airport. I guarantee you three years from now, we will not even recognize ORH. This is a very good thing for the City of Worcester.

Second, the financial side. This is where we need to look at the details. My gut tells me it will be some type of nominal lease for an extended period of time, not an outright sale. Will MassPort pay property taxes? Questions like these need to be answered.

In the end, we need to look at this as a good thing. Not only do we save money right now by not having to pay the annual deficits, but ORH will thrive. I have to say, however, that we should have talked to other potential buyers like Avports. That said I am still excited about this latest development.

I agree this will great for the Worcester area. My hope is Massport makes ORH a succesful airport. I would love to see a Worc/Bos Intl Airport someday.

Does Massport own Logan or lease it from the city of Boston?

Try to be more of a "Glass half-full kinda guy".

Maybe they will toss us a bone and give us Cape Air Service, JetBlue to JFK, too?

What the Deval and Mr. Patrick want doesn't necessarily mean that's what the Deval and Mr. Patrick will get... Don't forget the casinos they wanted, and the return of lottery money to cities and towns that they campaigned on.

Celebrating stuff before it happens seems to be a Worcester trademark, though...

Sorry David, when I look around this city it's hard to see a glass even 1/8th full.

The glass is only full for those on city payrolls and/or non profit payrolls.........for those that pay the freight it's near empty.......and soon the mother pig (taxpayers) are going to run out of mothers milk and t+ts to feed this patronage laden, nepotism bloated, city payroll with only 7 last names on it (as one former Worc radio talkmeister used to say about the incestous Worc payroll)

After I sent my above email I was almost going to type another ........but Jeff stole my thunder.....this is all subject to legislative approval.......right??.....i.e. those legislators inside the 128 beltway basicllyy have to go along with it or we're toast.

And hey Jeff..... you can easily get pics of that salt shed.......ya have to git outta the cab tho and walk 75 feet..... [g].......I do it for ya if I had a high tech camera....what a about a Goggle Aerial shot.....will it show enough detail...not sure ..?

Massport is a quasi private state entity. The only one that makes money by the way. Massport owns a lot of property, too much to list. But the completely own Hanscom Field in Bedford, Ma and obviously Boston Logan.
