Contingent on your prediction, we'll have a city council and airport environs neighbors pi++ing and moaning about areo-plane noise.
Prediction Numero Dos:
Massport will flex their eminent domain muscles. No timeline however and it will entail the shortest distance between two points w/o re: to parks or French cemetaries [g]
So can someone please tell me how much we actually sold the airport for? One simple figure: SELLING PRICE
I really would like to SEE a settlement statemnt similar to what one receives (HUD form) when they buy or sell a house as this is the exact same type of tranascation except it's an Airport, not a house.
Rumor has it, based on what can be discerned from this weeks T&G, all we got was $3.1M and we do not get a check for that amount, as the $3.1M will be used to pay down (or pay off) the airport mortgage. BTW, I had always thougHT the mortgage on that place was much higher????
The $5M for employee pensions is just that...kinda funny money...funding for future pensions and health ins payments. I guess Obama care will not be around when these folks retire? It is not money to buy the airport.
aLSO WHAT HAPPENS TO THE AIRPORT EMPLOYEES?
a. Massport'ed, b. laid off or, c. sent to DPW to hideout.
This chart in the T&G (Source Office of the city M'er MOB) is incomprehensible as to exactly what happened and IMO is completley lacking in detial & transparency.
T&G has to get their business reporters on this and report on exactly what happened.
Once again what will the city get from Massport in cash on June 30th?
We have the distinct pleasure of informing you that today we signed the lease for our new home office building which will be constructed at the corner of Foster Street and the new Mercantile Street on the site of the former Worcester Galleria.
It has been a long process completing all of the necessary tasks associated with our lease and we thank you for your patience and encouragement throughout this process. We want to give special thanks to our Facilities team of Richard Meadows, Paul Larkins and Fred Murillo, and to Meri Lowry, our in-house legal counsel, all of whom worked tirelessly to complete the negotiation.
The building will take some time to complete, but in the near future you will start to see activity around the site, and we can all watch with anticipation as the new offices become a reality. We will provide updates from time to time as the building process moves forward.
This is good news for our company and the community.
Please feel free to stop by if you have any questions.
I dont think the proposed UNUM building will age well if it looks like the picture of the Unum building on the telegram.com. That architectural style I think is too trendy and too 2005
2 airlines? Potentially. Maybe Delta connection, US Air, etc. Mainly commuter flights to ATL, BWI,JFK etc. Commuter flights are best suited for ORH, plus, it will open more gates for companies like Virgin at Logan, who only have 1 gate and are quickly rising in popularity. I can potentially see possibly Air Tran in there too. I also think ORH may become Massports GA and corporate aircraft airport. Theres plenty of open parcels to build on there too. I dont think freight is in the immediate future until they add a parallel taxiway or at least a jug handle to the main runway. T.F. Green is the ports main competitor, so dont be surprised if they have a plan to mirror Green. ORH is almost identical in size. Dont forget that Massport lost the Tobin bridge in that transportation deal, however, theyre still paying a hefty debt on it. Theyre not going to let orh fall into a larger deficit.
How about...two connector roads? One from 290/190 split west, one from pike/new 56 north. Along with the pike & 290, this would form a box-shaped beltway around Worcester replacing the 1930s type road network, allowing people to get to work and less congestion on local Worcester roads, not just for the airport.

I hope JetBlue or AirTran!!
Wanna bet? How much?
Will the airlines be flying by year's end, will they be announced, or will they be in negotiations?

Any prediction on destinations?
I hope so. I would like to see a flight or 2 a day to NY, Atlanta and Chicago.
It would be ideal to see JetBlue, but what about Allegiant??? Now that MassPort is in charge??
It will definately be Florida.
I say Allegiant
Cape Air is my guess...

Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
The operative sentence is:
"The building will take some time to complete"
The operative word being "some"
Lets hope move in date is summer 2012.
