Downtown

Great news on UNUM signing a lease.   Lets see what happens next.

Another observation.  City View restaurant....   Looks very nice.  Is very nice.  Simply the wrong restaurant right now for this location.   Don't see it making it through the summer.

The more I think about it, this really isnt news. Wasnt it pretty much a foregone conclusion that UNUM would just re-up w/the new dev'er?

T&G reports UNUM has been talking w/the new dev'er (City Sq II) for 5 months. Seems to me the news about City Sq II didnt break publicly until sometime in March? The City, Berkley, and City Sq II kept a lid on the fact that Berkley was gone from the City Sq project for at least 3 months then? 3 months is too long to be treating the taxpayers like mushrooms. Transparency and communication with the public was clearly lacking. The minute Berkley walked away it should have been made public. Afterall, lotsa public funds being used for this project.

City Sq II spokesman says..." pleased the lease agreement has been signed. Beyond that it is inappropriate to comment until closing on the site" HUH? City Sq II hasnt even taken title yet?

Didnt MOB say a few months ago that we cna expect to see some work actually strated on the project this summer or something to that effect?

Well T&G editorialist says "summer 2010 shaping up nicely"...at least as far as city swimming pools are concerned. Kudos are in order for the gettign the Crompton Park Spray park on line for July 1st (as planned?). The Common skating rink...well.......

Why can't we just have this spray park and all the other city swimming places be lakes or ponds? Lake Quinsig in the east, Indian Lake in the north, and Coes Pond in west. Natural bodies of water do not need anywhere near the maintenance that artificially created swimming venues need. Additionally buses pass by Lake Quinsig and Coes Pond and also very near by Indain Lake. Is this too simplistic of a solution or am I missing something. I mean who the hell ever needed politicians to be involved in getting kids to a local swimming hole years ago in dog days of August?.....I mean Christ Almighty...!!!!!! for example you can walk or ride bicycles from Great Brook Valley to Regatta point. Please dont gimme this baloney that kids today are in more danger walking. It's all media BS...!!!!! Too many Helicopter parents always hoovering.

Plus think how "green" it is to use natural bodes of water to swim in. Our local "Greenies" Konnie, Tim, Joe, et al should be excited about "natural" swimming vs. chlorinated, artificial swimming.

There even used to be a beach at the pond in Greenhill Park.

Ok Bill I give up. Where is City View restaurant located? I can't even find it with a Google search.

The UNUM signing effectively means that the city money set aside for demolition is now released.

As soon as City Sq II takes title to the development parcels which is expected by the end of June, MOB said on the Jim Polito show last Tuesday that he expects the wrecking ball to commence immediately thereafter.
