Sutner Story

Could not help remember this line from Sutner story

As developer, the Main South CDC also made a profit of $370,500, which Mr. Teasdale said would normally be reinvested in the CDC and the community in the form of literacy, meals and other programs.

In the last several years, however, Mr. Teasdale said the CDC had to absorb the profit to pay carrying costs on mortgages of empty units that remained unsold because of weak demand caused by the real estate collapse.

In other words there was not money for "other neighborhood initiatives.

How in Gods; name do they make a "profit" when they spent $600,000 EACH to relocate & rehab four 3 deckers and then turn around and sell them for $170,000.

A couple of O.T. thoughts this morning.

a. do we need the equivalent of a civilain review board to determine what streets and what sidewalks get re surfaced each year. I see too muck work being done on the streets and sidewalks of the players who are pluged into to DPW & City hall and Worc politics. Meanwhile other streets and sidewalks that are in much worse condition go begging for years.

b. Should there be a cover charge and proof of residency to enter city pool(s)? If so how much cover charge? Should nonresident guests (e.g. your 1st cousin visits some warm summer day) be allowed and if so should they have to pay more.

c. Summer constr season is here.........wth ARE all the civilan flaggers?

d. in June we had a Greek festival, an Asian festival, and I think possiby an African festival and an Irish festival on various June weekends??? Oddly enough, on those particular weekends the Sundae afternoons and evenings were always calm and quiet?

Off topic - Has anyone seen the new Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz movie "Knight and Day"? Worcester Airport looked great. Hoping that this is the way the airport will look very soon under MassPort's ownership.

Naw, I wont be there as that's the annual Trannie weekend in P-Town.

I'll be out in full drag as Big Boned Barbie. Look for me on my motorized scooter in 6" platform heels and circa 1970 hot pants. Bring up the NOLA Boyz in the Band that Sunday afternoon. S/b a hoot.

I'll be chillin' by the foot long hot dog joint or the Mayflower Rest. or The Head Shoppe or the Post Office Pub or the Backroom Bar or The Governor Bradford late afternoon karaoke where I can really show off my stuff.

David, the airport has looked great for the last 10+ years. Nice new terminals do not an airport make. Dittos for nice new houses on Kilby or Beacon or Hollis Streets... :)

ANyone checked regisrty of deeds to see it teh real estate up there has actually changed hands yet?

Bill, If I was Massport and I had new flights planned for Worc Airport in the knot two distant phuture.....wouldnt I as a smart and savvy airport operator have Billboards (no pun) and other advertising out by now? I am not sure waht to think right now. On the otehr hand if the new flights fly only to Fla I guess it makes sense not to advertise on Worc in the warm weaterh months?
