Mayor O'Brien

I am hoping Joe will be a good Mayor and I actually holding out some high hopes, but his new year's resolution was a little disconcerning. One of his goals is to lower his carbon footprint. If things keep going the way they are and more businesses keep leaving the City of Worcester your wish will come true.

Bill, please come on........."hopes" for a guy who is a dyed in the wool Jim McGovernite. Surely you jest. The same jim Mcgovern who gave us Coupe Deval. The same Jim McGovern who funds most all of Worc's NOLO industry.....

BILL, Joe O'Brien is bought & paid for by the city employees and IMO he's going to become a PIA to Mike Obrien and he'll want to give the city employees all kinds of pay back.

I hate to have to grab ya by the lapels and jack ya up against teh wall and shake some sense into you... esp. on new years day.

Please look at who he has surrounded himself with and who elected him. I suggest to you there is little/no hope. I really expect you to be more political savvy than this and more street smart when it comes to Worc Politics........esp consiering that my knowledge is local politics aint all that good to begin with....but Joe O brien will be just another tax and spend Mcgovern/Kennedy liberal..everything he will stand for......you will be opposed to.

I had teh same problem with Paulie back in November when he got a littel tight with Babsie during election season......at least that was my take......only to realize a few weesk later that Babz pulled the rug right out from under him and moved the PIP shelter outta Main St.............and right over to Paulies Piedmont Village.......ya cannot trust these Mofo's...........

You make some 1) very good and 2) valid points.

In fact the future Mayor was part of a group that chased me off Gardner Street when I want to buy and rehab a house 5 years ago behind Moynihan's. Long story but the Main South Public Safety Alliance, the Main South CDC and Mayor O'Brien all came out in opposition to me wanting to buy this city owned building that abutted a lot that I owned. In fact the old Housing Director ran the whole show that resulted in 1) me not getting the property and 2) me selling that lot I owned.

That said. I have talked to him a couple times over the past year and I think that he gets it, or I hope he does? What choice do I have? In the end, he is out Mayor and we have to give him a chance.

I would, however, have liked to have see his New Year's resolution be more along the lines of increasing our commercial tax base then reducing his carbon footprint.

gotta agree with Wild Will, Senor Jahn.....you are an ole pup on yer way to Juniper, Florida..WW and I still have some juice in us and we are doing stuff locally....we need to have some hope...

McGovernite or not he is going to have to create his own path as Mayor ....I do not think Joe is anyone's drone but this is not to say he does not share a path right now....a path in many instances in my own less than humble opinion that has led this city to where it is today..but "hay, what is two more years, in the scheme of things?"

what is interesting is that it seems that many of our most recent District 4 community activists all eventually want to dance on the political dance floor...

Barbara Haller
Joe O'Brien
Grace Ross
Mary Keefe

I often hear from a very few:>) WooTown folks.."Paulie, have you thought about running for office"..and I always respond "why, cause I keep my house tidy, have a blog and try to be involved a wee bit".....I don't think in 20+ years of being involved in Somerville culture or property ownership that I have been asked this once....I guess it is just assumed in Somerville that you keep your property tidy and be involved a wee bit some how....

As for CC Barbara Haller...she has done some very good things in D4 but I have always been of the opinion that to much of her time was spent in Main South to the detriment of the rest of the District...and I had told her so on a number of occasions...this recent PIP lateral move without informing her constituents has really rankled me as you have pointed out Senor Jahn..and I have made it known but it will not be the first time I have been rankled nor rankled someone...

Ya work with what you got Senor Jahn..I am sure it is no different in the industry you work in..

The Chandler Street Business Association has made it know that it is quite upset with our City Councilor over the PIP lateral move without speaking with us.....she has made absolutely no attempt to reconcile so we went to the hospital ourselves to arrange for a meeting...this is taking place in the coming weeks..we have had a recent spate of violence in our neighborhood associated with a problem property and bar and again our City Councilor has made no attempt to reconcile so we have gone to the poilice department outselves and are in the process of setting up a meeting with important officials...we are not going to roll over but we will work with our city leaders as we have been willing to over the past few years of our involvement...there are always going to be disagreements - but hopefully we can work thru them and assist in making the city the best it can be.

Did everyone get their 'January Surprise' i.e. Real Estate Tax Notice in the mail today? Who was the one who predicted this ...Jahn, Wormy Jeff? ...about the council election year and then BAM!!! ...welcome to January, baby!

Sorry guys, but I think JOB will be ensconced as Mayor for quite awhile. I hope I am wrong, fankly until he decides to leave i.e. move up the political foodchain. City employee vote will almost guarantee hi's continueed re- election. Probbaly be a few acorns thrown in too....not that D-4 aint crazy enough already

Did he ever take a SPECIFIC position on the dual tax rate system? If so what?

Bill, this is what I mean with things like stepping in and trying to thwart or otherwise hinder your acquisition of a piece of property is frankly none his business....w/o to the fact he's on Mc Governs payroll or not or even as a citizen of Main South.....and now u wanna work with guy????? If you hired me to frame a house for u and I ++++'ed you up and cost money............u going to want me to work with me again......I think not.....screw my once shame on u....screw me twice.............

Bill, please...his carbon footprint New Years resolution is a BAD OMEN of things to come. Do we have anotehr AL gore type who owns billion s$ worth of Occidental petroleum stock and yet continues on with his global warming bull++++.

Also, I'd be very, very curious to know all the details of his acquisition of his home.

Jim Mcgovern stands for everythin you guys are opposed to and JOB is a Mc govern clone..........how can you 2 guys not see this? Paulie just a reminder....Mcgovern has given you the likes of #224. A good test of JOB would be an immedaite letter to him re 224 b4 he even gets into office.....then see what he does to mitigate/eradicate your 224 nemisis

And Paulie I aint going to Fla anytime and i still got a littel juice in me.......i can still bench press two donuts on a broom stick .......and out run Buddy too.......altho my man boobs bouncing aint the most pleasant sight and if you think that having a meeting re Piedmont PIP is really going to change anything....please think again........like Bill you too want to try to work with those who have socked it to ya.......... Myself...once screwed over by someone.....no 2nd chances.......and Babz purposefully kept you out of the loop.........I thot you michs always carried grudges [g] to the graveyard....
