Direct Air Website Update

It looks like it is up and running correctly with DIRECT flights to Punta Gorda/Sanford and no planes to Myrtle Beach yet.

Great news, I'm very excited, but now is there a chance for Casino Air Direct to come too?

Little to no chance for Casino now

Bill,
I think a congratulations from you to the powers that be is in order, no? They take a lot of flack from this blog (mostly deserved), but I think they should get some credit from you when it's due.

Congrats............surely you jest?

a. Annual Million dollar deficits for how many years?

b. Inability to hang on to Allegiant.

c. Since 2002, how many yrs w/o a comm. carrier....5 years?

d. and who should really be congratulated.....i.e. who really brought this carrier to ORH.......the pols or our airport team?

Sorry, but mediocrity only gets congratulated in the public sector.........in a private sector setting these actors would have been out on their collective butts 3-4 years ago.

This isnt the fire dept where putting out a house fire ( doing your job) calls for all kinds of publicity, grand standing, chest thumping, & congratulations.

I am very happy that we have commercial service back, although I do have some concerns with Direct Air.

That sais, what exactly do you want me to congratulate them for?

Thanks Jahn:

1) How about an estimate of how much we would save if we downgraded to GA?

2) How about an RFP that markets the entire airport for long-term lease or outright sale?

Again I am happy that we have commercial service back and lets build upon this, but we are a long way from congratulations

I think many of us congratulated them when we flew Allegient?? At least I thought I did..you paying taxes in this city Roger??

Do I get a thank you Wild Will??

Paulie:

Thank you for being you... I remember going to a ribbon cutting for the South Worcester Industrial Park 10 years ago. Since that time there has been 2 maybe 3 other ribbon cuttings, not one job yet.

Don't get me wrong this is great news (new commercial airline), but Roger wants us to congratulate the "powers to be" for doing their job? Which by the way is not even close to getting done, not to mention Direct Air has not even flown their first flight. No more congratulations or ribbon cuttings, until the job is done.

Speaking of RFP's..............what ever became of that RFP for a miantenance facilty or whatever it was supposed to be located on a 4 ac. site at ORH............did they walk on it or was it being "held" (deferred) for awhile..............pending the Massport situation.

Hey I thihnk this is good, too.....basically anything is better then nothing.....however I am a realist....you have to be to survive in business.........so...

1. what is our strategic game plan going forward up there on airport hill?

2. massport takeover status......looks & sound slike we need an access road??

3. with success up there will come complaints of noise.....will airlines be given the vendor pushcart (business non-friendly) treatment by the city?

4. is Direct to be a year round venture or an Oct to May venture...partial yr is fine by me...we just would like to know???....can I book a trip to Aunt Ethel's in Fla. late next June right now?

5. Does Direct basically have an umbilical cord tied to Virgin Airways....meaning are they bargain leasing airplanes which Virgin owns and cannot use right now due to exceess capacity in the comm. airline bizz?

Where is Punta Gorda in Fla and how long does it take to travel via auto to the nearest "big name" resort area? If we are talking sizable travel time to a destination resort via auto once in Fla..................well one begins to ask themselves about the total time & money commitement involved in landing at distant, secondary airports......at least I would, but than again I rarely fly.

Was this annoncemtn exactly 2 yrs to teh day that Allegaint annonuced their departure and then Mayor Murray told them not to let the door hit them in back-stabbing +ss.

BTW we also have new jet blue city buses or am I once again a day late on these new arrivals? Wonder if they are leased?? NO need for all teh mechanics there on workmens comp to come back anytime soon....new buses need much less mainteannce

I can see how it sounds silly to congratulate someone for putting an airline in an airport.

But, in reality, it is a very difficult sell for airports like ORH and there are a hundred + other airports that they compete fiercely with for service; especially in these times of airline contraction.

As I mentioned, I have plenty of problems with the way ORH is run and marketed...but they got an airline in and that is an achievement.

Roger how about we compromise and use euphemisms....kinda like when politicains rob their campaign accounts that are meant for political purposes only .....and they call it a bookkeeping error when they commit a purposeful, willful act like writing a check to buy themselves a personal use automobile or personal use cash (no names mentioned)

So we'll call the latest news at ORH a Reversal of a non achievement ( as opposed to an achievement)............the non achievement being losing Allegiant.......

Just bustin' on ya Rogeriere.........I actually don't like to compromise at all

Roger:

I apologize, I may have been a little too tough on you.

I agree the powers to be commended on Direct Air.

Lets hope this is the beginning of alot of positive steps.

Thanks

Just an aside here, roger I was being sarcastic in my last post about non achievements & Rogeriere........in case it may have been misinterpreted.

Maybe I should go on the ORH.Blogspot D.L. for another 2 weeks............as it Does wonders for my outlook on life & my blood pressure & my wrist & my athritis.....of course thsi time I'd be looking for 72% of my pay while i am on the Disabled List

My Fiance and I were on the Direct Air flight from Punta Gorda to Worcester Mass. We were grounded in Orlando due to a stewardess on board feeling ill from the extreme turbulence experienced while in route. My fiance passed out from the motion of the turbulence. She is petrified to go through this again. The employee stewardess eventually walked off the plane in Orlando leaving the plane stranded without the regulation steward's to operate proficiently. We then spent five hours waiting for another stewardess to arrive from across the state. Her boyfriend had to drive her while we received a periodic account of her journey through highways and side streets to get there. She even stopped for coffee to keep her alert. All this while a plane in the same vicinity at Punta Gorda airport departed without her, because of miscommunication among two separate crews. To compound this incident, we were given eight dollar vouchers to get dinner on New Years Day that didn't even cover taxes on the fast food garbage meal which was our only option. That was the full extent of our compensation. It was an unforgettable experience.
