I had to laugh when I read this comment from city Econ Dev'ment chief Mr McGourthy in the Worc Business Journal of Aug 18 re the old Lee St school sold to WPI:

"Timothy McGourthy, the city’s economic development director, said the city chose WPI’s bid for the school building over another developer who wanted to make the building into condominiums. The WPI proposal came out on top not just because it offered a higher sales price and more tax revenues, but also because the school’s vision seemed more in keeping with city priorities, McGourthy said. "

So the city priorites are fewer or less condo's (or rental units) and more business use or re use of property. How can one rationalize this with teh continued proliferation of Low Income housing being built in Main South with gov't money to be used by non working Pajama People?

Inconsistent?

Same department that award a parcel in the South Worcester Industrial Park for $1 over a $50,000 bid by an abutting business, who was suppose to start construction this past March.

To date they have not taken title of the property?

I hit this site once in morning once at night.................& maybe mid day depending on my schedule

Yes some say I am unique.........others prob hate my guts......others think I am negative.......i just like to serve as a check or balance on some of the Bovine fecal matter that seems to emanate daily from the media & from City Hall........what can I say !!!!!!!

Think of me as the FOG's ordinance........making sure all baloney is properly Handled & reported.

Of course sometimes I am wrong too........I am basically fed up with city labor controlling this city council and I dont think it will ever end unless/until the money runs out. We have a 1/2 Billion dollar city budget that doesnt have an extra 2 cents in it for a major contingency and worse maybe 1/2 to 1/3 of the budget comes from asking the state or the fed's or others to fund us.

Anyone ever think that Main South is for the low income people and west side is not?
I was just thinking--what's all the excitement about flights to Florida about? Seems that it's just an easy way for people to spend their money outside Worc. What are we eve going to do about attracting people to spend their money here?
Anyways, I was just thinking.

when was the last time you heard a Chelsea joke or a Somerville referred to as Slummerville??

Main South can turn around if we want it to turn around..but dropping all these low income project in to it and close to downtown aint helping either

I gotta say that old building castle furniture that worcester common ground is rehabbing looks a hell of a lot better bow than a few months ago.

I don;t think labor has the clout they used to in city elections. the ultimate test will be belanger vs. mmore.

can someone fill me in on pajama people? i am confused.

to my knowledge, maybe bill can clarify, most of the cdc housing built by cdcs and then sold to homeowners is purchased by working people who still have to foot the mortgage. bill is right that the fact the purchasers don;t own the land under the building is kind of a rip though. are the cdcs developing rental units? what are the criteria to move in there?

its a bad market all around for private developers and cdcs. i think cdcs are on a spectrum, some do a good job, like oak hill, others don;t. some private developers do a shitty job, like on castle street. and there are only a few like bill in the inner city, right bill?

i think the real problems in wormtown are the slum absentee landlords who just let their properites rot...
