Worcester Chamber After Hours
Maybe they do this alot, but I was golfing at Wachusett Thursday and the Worcester Chamber of Commerce was holding there after hours there. In West Boylston???

I saw the invitation for the after hours but decided not to go because of the little benefit it would have for my business. I have not been to a meeting lately but the few after hours I have been to have been awful. I do think the Chamber could be a positive agency for Worcester but I don't know what they do to help build business in Worcester.

Their website states "The Region's Success is our business", and the title reads "Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce".
I posted this before but what he hell..I e-mailed Dick Kennedy about me hosting, promoting, financing a Corporate Challenge road race in downtown Worcester a year ago..no less that 10 e-mails and NOT "1" returned:>)
The Boston Corporate Challenege had 10,000 runners in 2008..NY had 15,000 & Hartford had in excess of 5,000 I believe..if we had 1000 downtown after work and then filling up the bars and restaurants would this not have been good??? Gabe would have had a heart attack for something ike this on a Thursday night..
All I asked of DK was to assist with business sponsorship at any level..at minimum introdice me to folks

Better yet do you think the Boston Chamber would hold an after hours in Watertown?

In as much as I am a huge supporter of the Canal District..would I bring a huge core of successful business men down there for a "after hours"..probably not..I recall a few weeks back Carol & I hanging out all weekend at the Emerald Isle Music Festival..when we decided to walk across Kelley Square to get a bite to eat at Block 5 she noticed how not one cross walk was painted..not one..here we have an area of the city that the ciy is supposedly promoting, many are investing their life savings in and even more are supporting and the cross walks are not painted nor is their a sign designating the area "The Canal District"..the State of Massachusetts does more with the Kelley Square exit off Rt 290..
Shrewsbury Street is nice but one can get sick of the location after awhile if you are always there...
Lets face it mates..Worcester has few places to spend time at..this is changing I understand but there are few...so I can probably see a desire to do something different...especially if the Worcester Chamber is regional?? Is it?
I am a member of the Somerville Chamber & Hyannis Chamber-all of our "after hours" are in the either Somerville or Hyannis...I thought of joining the Worcester Chamber but the above experience soured me a wee bit.
I understand I am not a member and their resources are thin but here was a chance to lure in a new member-small business and do something cool within the business community like many other city business communities do
Now if Worc had a golf course with a liqour license.....or better yet, the C of C could have held the meeting at Green Hill after which the attendees could sip a few cans of beer in the parking lot.......only to be ratted out by a disgruntled cop .....and then lugged to police headquaters and booked...........didnt that happen about a yr. ago to 3 guys from Marlboro after a charity tournament st GH?? Clearly not the kind of bust that Worc's finest s/b be proud of and I'll bet the presiding judge told them so, too.
Maybe Wachusett CC is a member of Worc C of C and the C of C had to throw Wahusett a bone??
Does anyone read Mr Nemeth on Sunday when he does nat'l and international pieces. I only read him if it's local.
I went to the Big E in W Springfiled today for the 1st time ever. I really enjoyed it. Truly a picture perfect afternoon and evening. Great atmosphere as well. MAny familes & kids having a great time. All the while I am thinking, boy imagine if Worc had a drawing card like this for 17 days every September. Unreal. Had to be 1000's there. Of course week days it's probably less of a draw.......but again it runs 17 days and it really wasnt all that agricultural/rural themed that I thought it may have been.......plus I imbibed a few, saw the Clydedales (both Budwieser and Hallamore [heavy hauling truck co.]) & ate all kinds of food. Almost too tired to drive home.
