Airport sale

Now I am totally confused?    There is a story in the newspaper today about councilors being concerned about the City Manager the $2,000,000 from the "sale" of ORH, referrinig to it as "one time" money?

We are only getting $2,000,000 from the sale of ORH?   This is wrong.  I think the City Manager was referring to the fact the City of Worcester will be saving $2,000,000 per year by not having to pay the debt service and their portion of the operational deficit.   This is not a "one time" thing.

If they really thought this was a "one time" thing then they should be irate that we only got $2,000,000?   Correct me if I am wrong here, but I don't think we have any idea what we are going to get from the sale of ORH.   All we really know is that we don't have any more operational costs starting July 1st.

I cannot keep up with airport finances w/o seeing it in front of me on paper.

But, but, but wont the city also lose the Massport annual subsidy?

For example, if the city is annually spending $2M and then annually receiving a $1M subsidy from from Massport...and the city then off loads the airport to Massport........when all the dust settels the city is annually enriched by only an add'l $1M? I.e. city loses $2M in expenses and also loses the $1M subsidy.

This obvioulsy doesnt consider the funds rec'd, if any, from the sale of the airport. That's a separate item. BTW does the airport still receive the $1,000,000 amt from Washington DC for reaching the annual 10,000 passenger limit anuually.........which passenger limit we dont reach but we still get the $1M. Kinda like every Littell league kid gets trophy, win or lose

More low income housing is front and center in T&G this morning (3-24). 22 more units in Beacon Brightly Land for a cool $6.4M. Call it $300,000 per unit to built ghetto housing. Call it $325,000 if the prject also gets Home Funded........and shiver me timbers.......this is just for the structures and improvements......not the land. I am guessing a nice 1200 sq ft raised ranch can be erected for somewhere in the neighborhood of $150,000 excluding the land. Where in name of Allah are these non profits blowing all this money?

jOe Obrien on Bluto thsi morning, Congrats are in order for Joe & W and the two newly adopted kids (2 girls?). Joe stated in the course of the interview that we in America sometiems do not appreciate all we have like free education and free healthcare. I agree, we all can be unappreciative sometimes, but, but, but...........education is free??????? dittos for healthcare?????.........and Mayor Joe is for lack of a better term the city councils liason on the city business owners survey. Sorry folks, you could not have a more clueless individual when it comes to business. It is not Oct 31st and Joe should remove his pro- business mask immediately and the business community is naive & clueless if they cannot see through JOB's pro business histrionics and theatrics. Please take that gig over to the junction of Main and Southbridge Sts and/or book a slot on American Idol.
Thanx.

The issue is not the the total amount of the sale, but using some proceeds (2 mill) from the one time sale to offset a lack of funds in next years budget cycle for reoccurring costs. Council is concerned that we would use 2 million from the sale of the airport to close a gap in the budget, when those funds won't be available in the next cycle. They would rather see the one time funds go to one time costs (like street repair) and deal with the budget gap based on projected reoccurring revenue.

Hey, I've got $2,500,000 cash and can close in 30 days. Do we start the bidding now or is this a done deal?

in the Village of Piedmont we are quickly moving away from the Main Street model....everything being free has only added more years on to it crawling out of the sewer

Brendan I agree thats how it s/b used, but please keep in mind street reapirs/upkeep/repaving are hardly a one time item.

Most city street are shot after 15-20 years depending on the amt and type of traffic they have to haNDLE.

wHO gets their street repaved and when is 100% political. If a "plugged in" person moves to your street it gets re-paved almost immediately and then there's the tale of a DPW foreman type who ordered "so called" extra loads of asphalt to be brought to the dirt road he lives on and just coincidentally the bituminous concrete was used in front of his house.
