according to MAyor OBrien and WRCN radio, there will be Mayor’s Night Out at Worcester Youth Center on Chandler St near Ted Williams Little League at 5:30 pm Monday night. Before that on the same day, the Mayor will have a “Coes Pond Neighborhood Walk” at 4 pm, meeting at the Alhambra Council Knights of Columbus
The city is facing a $20-$30M budget shortfall for its next fiscal year and ratehr than addressing city expneses which are the elephant in the room these folks are worried instead about increasing city revenues by business growth. We need to get our priorities straight. This is insanity.
35 individuals on a commission/task force? You gotta be kiddin' me...!!!!!!!!.
Mr Brien said "in order to provide................we need to grow our economic base". Sorry Mr Obrein, first we need to pare our expenses...specifically our labor expenses. The per unit cost for city labor is far too high.
If I wanted to grow city tax revenues (business) I would NOT NOT NOT invite the following players:
a. Unions
b. Churches.
c. the immigration office
d. CDC's
e. sexist business groups
f. small non profits.
I mean Christ almighty (sorry i know it's holy week), talk about inviting the enemy into your emcampment. Why dont we invite the IAFF, too.
The only thing missing from the list are the following. Dare i ask why?
1. City Econ Dev. office
2. Worc Area Chamber Of Comm.
3. Exec Office 'Hood Dev.(last i knew small business often start in the neighborhoods??).
4. CSX...prospectively the largest job growth engine Worc Has.
And if I was the Worc Mun. Reserach Bureua, the first god dam thing I would do in that meeting is stand up and ask what became of all the recommendations they have made over the years to make Worc Business friendly.
And the theme of this pow wow s/b how do we grow Worc's middle class, b/c w/o it we aint getting any new business of any real consequence.
The mayors neighborhood walks s/b during the wee hours of the morning and not in broad daylight. Paulie how about El Mayor' walk from Park and Chandler to Coney Island and back again starting at 100am Sunday morning. Talk about an Easter Service in the VOP.
And I forgot in my above post to mention that the ringleader of this is none other than an Elmer Fudd clone. The is ++++'ing priceless. I assume The Mayor will have on his pro business mask ???? The histrionics and theatrics out of city Hall are truly Hollywood fodder.
If I recall says: Bill Randell told me once he was on a panel that was put together when T. Murray was Mayor. He said it was a great group and they put together a lot of good ideas but it went the way of Plums and Algiers. Good Luck
I was on a PILOT task force run by Jim Leary... He did a great job and we came up with great recommendations, which resulted in the formation of the Univercity Partnership.
That was where it ended. The Executive Director really did nothing. In addition we were suppose to have follow-up meetings to see how are recommendations were implemented.
Bill isnt there another smaller, similar type group that was recently formed by you and others? Not teh CBA, but another one?
And low and behold whose name is on this committte, none other than a James Leary From Umass Med. Surely they jest. This could never be the same James lEARy who recently gave up his reps seat for nice job at UMass....did I read somethign about a 125,000 salary for this gig awhile back?
The WMRB has been doing for years what this committee will atttempt to do again. The council just files their reports and recommendatiosn in the basement of city hall. This is just be deja vu all over again with a new name and new cult leader. Put on your Purple Nikes for a soft landing.
This is Kinda like the gypzy contractor who goes belly up every 3 years and then repaints all their equipment, re-names their company, puts a crucufix on the front grilles of all their vehicles, re-hires the same low lifes, and goes out screws over the innocnet & naive again all in the name of Jahn 2:15.
Fool me uno times shame on you.........keep screwing me over year in and year out shame on me.
The circus is back in town and I am knot taockin' the one behind Notre Dame church, I am tockin' the one that front Main st at teh common.
THEY HAVE TO CUT COST OF CITY LABOR. UNTIL THIS IS DONE NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO RIGTH WORC'S SLOWLY SINKING SHIP OF STATE.

We never had any follow-up recommendations.
