SkyValue

In the airline industry these start-ups are very risky. Can you say:

  1. TransMeridian
  2. Hooters
  3. LeHigh Valley Air
  4. SouthEast

Looks like SkyValue has joined the above ranks. Although risky, it is start-ups like these that we need to consider, who may take a chance on ORH and for us to re-establish ourselves as a legitimate option. Obviously we need to be careful and not throw marketing monies at these second-tier carriers, like it looks like Gary, Indiana may have done.

At the same time if I would rather have spent 200,000 of the DOT Small Community Air Service Grant monies trying to keep Allegiant at ORH, or another second-tier carrier, then a consultant (IMG). Bottom line scratch SkyValue from the list. Skybus, however, still intrigues me.

Went to the Youngstown site and saw they applied for a $800,00 Small Communities Air Service Grant. Maybe this is something Worcester could apply for.

We did indeed apply for an $800K grant which would be used to help offset the first 2 years cost of a regional airline to fly 3-5 daily trips to O'Hare or Cincy or Charlotte.

The flights would be flown on 50-90 seat regional jets.

The airport sent out a survey to about 5000 business; of the 90000+ within the region. According to those businesses which sent info back, they chose O'Hare as their favorite spot for business flights.

If awarded, it would take 3-6 months to get an airline to come in with marketing and initial flights to begin late spring to early summer of 2008.
