This isn't even our worst senator! Notice that the yacht is actually owned by a Theresa-connect corporation out of PA. Quite probably a sleazy tax dodge, but it was Scotty Brown who today went along with the Republican obstructionism to filibuster discussion of DISCLOSE act, which would reveal the identity of corporations paying for political ads.
Rich people can dodge sales tax via corporations, rich people can exert undue influence on lawmaking via shadycorporate donations. Right direction/wrong track?
What I find interesting is that the state has exempted airplanes from sales tax in an effort to bring more planes into the Commonwealth.
Why not the same thing for boats? The video of the yacht shows lots of people working on it. If the boat was berthed in Boston Harbor, all of those people working on it would be Massachusetts employees, not Rhode Island employees.
Kerry is obviously high profile.
How many other boats are owned by non-Massachusetts based corporations yet are used regularly by Massachusetts residents who own those corporations?
It's been said there may soon be another tale with a similar story line. Time will tell.
Nick how do Rich people use corporations dodge sales tax?
And Nick what of all political contributions that Mr. Barack "Transparency" Obama rec'd in the form of money orders back in 2008? So above board & transparent??
Nick I do however agree that the wealthy can unduly influence poltical decisions.
Why doesnt our foolish mayor take people on tours of the Salisbury St area vs. continually hanging out our dirty laundry for all the world to see. No one on Salisbury St probably even hangs out laundry, esp. the folks over there who are so GREEN.
JO'es Magical Mystery tours of Main South have to stop.
John Kerry is a rich man, married to a richer woman. The yacht in question was actually owned by a PA based corporation. I believe this was a deliberate strategy used to either save money on taxes (either on the sales side or before) and obscure Kerry and Heinz's use/actual ownership to make detection of tax dodging less likely (or create some sort of distance that might have been effective if the story wasn't seized upon as zealously).
Yep, Obama probably received some funny money, I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. I had just read about Scott's duplicitous vote in my "evening news" run through though, so I picked on him. I'd say McCain is the worst in this respect, having sponsored much tougher legislation in the past only to flip on it now.
