Boston-NYC Shuttle --JetBlue

Think about this. Our partner, MassPort, is doing alot of business with JetBlue. Right now they have ten flights per day from Boston to New York. JetBlue realizes alot of people in the ORH catchment ares fly these flights as evidenced by their advertising in the Worcester Telegram.

How hard would it be for MassPort to divert two of these flights per day to ORH??? Wasn't that the whole reason we wanted to partner with MassPort. Their contacts and their experience would have spin-off benefits for ORH.

Think about it 2 of 10 flights?? How hard can it be???

Bill, JetBlue has no time for Massport. JetBlue will not cater to the whims, wishes, or suggestions of Massport. From industry experts I have spoken to, they tell me that Massport has done more to aggravate their clients at Logan than any other "management" firm they know of. So, to imagine that flights could be "diverted" to ORH as a result of good will between JetBlue and Massport is comical.

Tom, JetBlue has made a huge investment in Logan. If we can not use the leverage of MassPort's to help us get flights, lets just end this right now. Seriously think about it 10 flights per day out of Boston to New York. You don't think two of those flights per day are with people from our catchment area??

Allegiant is great but losing $2,000,000 per year for Allegiant simply is not worth it. Cut it back to a GA airport and start saving monies now.

Bill,

I agree with Tom. I have heard rumors as well that Jetblue and Logan (MASSPORT) Haven't had the best of relationships.

And it's like saying if Airtran has 6 flights per day from CAK, why not send 2 to Youngstown? Of course run by different port authorities but it all boils down to money.

Jetblue will fly the more profitable routes and you really think Logan wants to lose 2 flights to an airport with 4 flights per week?

The thing you need to understand is that MassPort, who runs Logan, manages our airport. They would not be losing any flights.

The terms of the operating agreement currently has MassPort picking up 85% of our $2,000,000 annual operating deficit. We partnered with them to 1) help defray our losses but 2) to help us get airlines back to ORH.

MassPort would not be losing anything, but actually trying to put ORH back on the map, reduce our operating deficit which lowers MassPort's exposure. Right now MassPort has ten shuttles per day with the Embraer 190 from Boston to NYC.

JetBlue realizes that there are many people in the MetroWest/Worcester areas fly these flights thus their advertisements in our local newspaper. If MassPort we to divert 2 flights per day of the 10 to ORH, what would MassPort lose??

I believe that the load factors would be the same since 2 flights worth of passengers would end up going to ORH versus Boston. More importantly it would help re-establish ORH.

This is the whole reason we partnered with MassPort, to help us bring flights to ORH using them as leverage

I do not know that much about managing an airport but if I was running two health clubs and one successful and the other was losing money I know what I would be concerned with. What's the point of having someone manage an empty airport. I know they pick up 2 million but I would like to see a real airport.

If Massport has no leverage with JetBlue then they should push some of those new Delta flights our way. It's amazing that ORH is looked down upon so badly that a huge airport managment group can't help.

hey all, I'm a jetBlue pilot, I fly A320's from Logan to Orlando MCO, and I was recently talking with another pilot who told me that jetBlue is having some major problems with Logan and Massport in particular, and he was saying that Massport was "pushing jetBlue aside", and he was also saying that when jetBlue approached Massport to add more flights from Logan, Massport didn't want to even negotiate with them, they just said we don't have anymore room or times to schedule more flights...so I guess thats what really got jetBlue's blood flowing with Massport, so with jetBlue feuding with Massport, I don't really see them seeing eye to eye on moving flights from Logan....anyways, I really think that it seems Massport doesn't really care about ORH...I would love to see ORH succeed, but I don't think it will happen under the control of Massport.

hey all, its me again...I just have one question. I thought Allegiant only had flights to Orlando Sanford from Worcester....but I was looking on flightaware.com and they have a departing flight for Allegiant (MD-80) heading for James M. Cox Dayton Intl departing at 9:00 PM and arriving at 10:28 PM...then there is another Allegiant (MD-80) arrival from Greater Peoria Regional....what the heck are those there for???I thought it was just to and from Orlando Sanford.....

here is the link to where I saw this:

I always envisioned this website to have constructive discussions about ORH. Believe I have tried to have these same discussions with our Airport Director, Eric Waldron, and our Airport Liaison, Phil Niddrie to no avail.

These are the kind of discussions we need to have. Now lets find out why Allegiant had these jets here today.

More importantly why doesn't Massport offer ORH as an alternative??? Just like Tim said if you had a gym overflowing with members wouldn't you suggest to members that you had another gym, that they are closer to, with no meembers??

its not just massport....look at jetblue's city map. how many cities do they fly to within 45 minutes of each other??????????? only ny/ny, and NY is in a class of its own. its not a matter of massport telling jetblue where to go, although it would be nice if they actually used leverage to bring airlines down.

How about we look into a new management group or at least look into other options. Two million a year is probably a savings for Massport instead of having a competitor in there back yard.

Maybe I will hit the lotto buy the airport and we can try and run ORH.

Tim:

Maybe we should consider just selling the airport to MassPort. That way they know that they own it and any improvements to ORH will go their bottom line.
