$75 Ticket

Just got a ticket in the mail. Next to my building is a parking lot that I do not own. Last storm the sidewalk was not shoveled, but since I own the building closest to it I get a ticket for $75 in the mail today. I commend the City for taking the shoveling of sidewalks as a serious matter, but they should do a better job checking to see who the owner of the sidewalk is before mailing a ticket.

They were probably was hoping it was your property. Last storm I had two people park next to my curb cut. could not plow properly because of it. I waived down a guy form DPW who in turn called the police to ticket it. Th officer had an attitude with me asking me to show the curb cut. I moved the snow so he could see it as if he could not tell. This was after I banged on doors to get it moved and no one answered (actually one did but barked at me). When I was a kid my father would walk the whole street getting people to move their cars so the street would get plowed correctly. My neighbors don't even shovel out their cars till the next day. They should ticket those who don't...some people just don't care still some covered with snow from two storms ago... funny thing is how they (the city) goes after the business owner for not shoveling....not getting enough from us in taxes I guess

I am kind of torn on this one.

Really I commend the City for going after people who do not shovel their walks. Wonder if Pharmasphere got a ticket?

How is a policeman (think that who wrote the ticket) suppose to know who owns the sidewalk for the parking lot? He must have assumed my property that abuts the parking lot must own the parking lot?

It is just going to be a pain. Now I am going to have to appeal the ticket ($75) and go to court and explain that lot is not mine.

Didn't you go through the same thing last winter Bill?

And don't get me started on folks who park their cars for the winter - we had a guy leave his business vehicle on our little dead end street for the entire winter and never shoveled it out ever. Why bother when spring will come?

Absolutely beyond belief!

I'd start at the WPD... let them know you got the ticket, but you don't own the property.

You know I think last year someone on this blog accused me of not shoveling the walks next door to me. Never got a ticket.

Again don't blame the cops. Do they really have time to check out assessing maps and figure out who the owner of the property is?

Good to see that people are getting tickets for not shoveling their walks, but I really hope a letter will suffice and I do not have to go to court?

Hey folks I heard a certain person named Bob Moylan had a sidewalk that was not shoveled all last winter..........dittos for a person named Palmieri until Wormie You-tubed his unshoveled walkways. I mean the guy is the DPW honcho............so.....what up with that!!!!

Now tonight I cannot get my sidewalk shoveled properly. I mean the stuff is frozen solid to the pavement......what am I suppposed to do??

Worst part is the city is exepmt from this law just as they are exepmt from the nusiance ord. they passed in 2008.........

Frankly it's dam joke.........i consider it on par with the 65 MPH speed limit on the interstate.......which few adhere to all the time...myself included at times...

I forgot mention in yesterdays paper (12-27) there was front page puff piece on the city trash hualers (TH's). As I have mentioned on here before the only days these guys work a full 8 hr day is the 5 pick up days after Xmas b/c of all the volume of wrapping paper stuffed into the trash bags.

I am perplexed how the T&G came to do a piece on TH's on their busiest day(s) of the year? Somethings up there. Kinda like the firemen dropping a dime to T&G when they are all going to all jump into Indian in the January.

The newspaper reporter should follow the TH's around the other 51 weeks of the year when the striker is all done at 1130am and the striker also has a 30 minute coffee break while the driver goes out to Rte 20 to dump the 1st load of the day. The driver is all done at about 12pm. I dont know if the driver takes a coffee break in the morning. They start at 700 am and get paid 8 hr for 5 or less hours of work. Nice gig if ya can git it..... huh...........meanwhile the re cycle TH's which are a private company are out until late afternoon everyday with only 1 man on a truck...............city has 2 men on the trash trucks.

City could easily eliminate 1 or 2 of the daily trash routes if the men were workign 8 hr days.

So who DOES own that parking lot?

Maybe you should call out a high tech hit and have Wormy Jeff drive by their house to see if their sidewalks are cleared?

Bill, I blame the sidewalk cops..........BTW is it the police or is it teh DPW'S so called Nuisance Control drive by guy.

I recall a T&G piece a while back about how the nuisance control guy (NCG) has a computer in his vehicle and can pull up the city assessor lists and immedialtey draw up a violation notice.

Cops have the same capability. This mere laziness.

Bill do you really have to court on this? Wouldnt a telophonos call to the nuisance Hombre' correct what is clealry just an error.

I also need to know how I am supposed to remove yesterdays now frozen snow from my sidewalk? Am I supposed to hire a 28 ton Caterpillar 988 front end loader with an 8 ft bucket ?

Earlier in the year we got a fine notification for a bunch of improperly filled yellow trash bags that were clearly in the yard next to us; my guess is because the pole in our driveway, with the 43 was right there (to make it easier for UPS), whoever was making the rounds just put down 43. I took a bunch of pictures, clearly getting the 41 at the top of the house and sent them off to DPW and got a letter of apology. Never heard from the neighbor though...
