Dear Valued Members,
It is with great disappointment that we have to inform you that the Wachusett Chamber of Commerce is shutting its doors effective immediately.
While this organization has proudly served the Wachusett region for 97 years, the current economy has had too harsh of an impact on us. Though we currently have a strong and vibrant membership, we are simply unable to get out from under past debts. We have been able to effectively manage our debt over the past few years and were in the midst of implementing a long-term financial plan to ensure that the Chamber’s finances would grow stronger. However, earlier this week we were informed that a major sponsor would not be renewing and their contribution was critical to our ability to remain financially stable at this time. So, we have no choice but to close our doors.

This is kind of sad, but do we have to sometimes ask ourselves if maybe some or all C of C are becoming dinosaurs, not unlike our post office that politicians will just not take off the resusitator. That said, yes all my mailmen have been decent guys.........but sometimes there just comes a time when the demand for horseshoes is minimal. Also witness to milkman of days gone by.
Sometimes I wonder if the so called homogenization of businesses is working against C of C. Instead of a dozen local lumber yards that might have contributed to the C of C, we now have what????.......a Home Depot and a Lowes? Dittos for the Ma & Pa markets of yesteryear and the Super Duper grocery chains of today
I would speculate that given some locales have less of a business base that maybe the more rural C of C are really getting pinched. What wonder what locations are covered by the Wachusett C of C? Holden, Paxton, Sterling, Princeton, Rutland, Hubbardston, etc? Probably not the business base out that way we might find in say the Metrowest area.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I have to wonder who the large C of C supporter was? Also curious why the Wachusett area couldnt be merged into Worcester C of C. Maybe they didnt want to ?
