Airport Commissioner

It really bothers me that I can not be on a local commission like the Airport Board. People can be part of the City Administration and not have to live in the City of Worcester, which I have no problem with. We even had a State Senator, who did not live in Worcester, but I can not serve on a local volunteer board because I live in Holden?

Is this business friendly? Do business in the City of Worcester, pay your taxes but we do not want you serving on any of our boards?

The City of Worcester should change eligibility to read that you need to either live in the City of Worcester, own property or own a business in the City of Worcester. All things being equal the nod should go to the Worcester resident.
Although this is outdated, there were 57 openings on March 7, 2008.

So if an airline is interested in flying to St Pete, most likely it is on this list...

...of course, Allegiant is scratched off.

Bill, let's look at this rationally. At 1st glance it would appear worc residents are apethetic to the needs of the citys baoards & commissions.

But my take is why would anyone want to take the time (often from their workday) assuming they can even get away to serve on these boards when no one will heed the recommendations that these boards make?

Take the Worc Municipal Research Bureau. How would you feel if everything that you do is basically kicked to the curb by the city council.which council is interested in only 2 things..

1. keeping city labor happy ( every Tuesday in Worc is Labor Day, IMO).

2. Getting re-elected.

Speaking of Labor Day (or should I say no labor day )....why dont we sell yellow bags from the city fire stations? Give em something to do

Can I run for Town Council in Holden? As a property owner on Olean St in Worcester, I'd like to find a way to keep all you Holden residents from racing up and down my street in some giant rush to come to Worcester and make use of the services your community can't provide for it's own.

No you can not run for Town Selectman in the Town of Holden nor can I run for City Council in the City of Worcester.

As far as speeding down Olean Street. I grew up on Dawson Rd/ Stark Rd and my mother still lives on Stark Rd. I do not condone speeding on Olean Street, Salisbury Street or any other street leading in and out of Worcester.

All I am saying is that if someone contributes to the cost of these services (paying city taxes), they should be eligible to serve on volunteer commissions. Again all things being equal there should be a preference given to the City resident versus the non-city resident.

How silly of me, but I see there is an opening on the Holden Infrastructure Investment Fund Commission. Would you be willing to put in a good word for me? I'd like to use that money to reengineer Tatnuck Sq. Only seems fair, considering the traffic burden comes primarily from Holden and Paxton.

Point is, what exactly does paying taxes have to do with anything? You can be a renter and sit on a city board or commission, residency is the only requirement, and rightly so. Didn't we clear most of this up with the 14th amendment?

We'd be better served by fixing Worcesters broken tax code, not by using it to drive a wedge between those who do and do not pay residential and business taxes. Because if it's only about who pays, Chapter 70 should make me royalty in Oxford.

If you owned property or did business in the Town of Holden (in other words a stockholder), I think you should eligible to apply for a board in the Town of Holden.

Again, preference should be given to someone who is a resident over someone who is a non-resident.
