Direct Air

Direct Air has 8 cities they are servicing with three destinations:

  1. Punta Gorda
  2. Sanford
  3. Myrtle Beach

This alot of flights for this airline I am really starting to get concerned that this may be a little too much too fast for Direct Air.

It might be alot of flights but they are only flying to each city two or three times per week. I am looking forward to seeing them fly in this weekend.

Off topic here, but I have to agree with most of Nemeths column yesterday......w/o these colleges the city would be a real mess.........colleges are a huge industry in worc..........what do we have 9 or 10 of them w/in the city?...we'd be another Brockton or SpringField w/o the colleges...can you imagine low income housing instead of college campuses...b/c thats what we'd have w/o the colleges..................same thing applies to hospitals...........and if we are going to hit up colleges why not all non profits.

How many of you would pay more money to the city than what you're legally obligated to pay?

The average city worker takes 10 sick days per year and 600 of our 4800 employee workforce is out on Injured On Duty status..........how can any entity thrive when the taxpayers are paying so much money for people not to work.

Hopefully Direct Air will keep Worcester in its fold.

However it should be time to seriously look at private management companies. The reason being Massport looks like it's cost cutting and will have new added responsibilities w/ Mass Turnpike downsizing.

Doesn't the extended contract end in December with Worcester Airport?Hopefully there's a plan B and C in the works

Bill:

I did a little recon this past weekend. I had to fly down to the National Autism Conference and give a speech:

http://www.nationalautismconference.org

I flew JetBlue out of Boston to Fort Lauderdale at 10:20am; while I was sitting in the terminal at Logan, (we flew an Aerbus) I couldn't help but notice the next gate had the Embraers to New York City, JFK that you have been lobbying for for how long ... Bill was right, this would make a GREAT fit with ORH..... then I saw a slew of Cape Air flights landing/taking off ... once again another Bill Randell talking point and once again, Bill was right (code sharing with Jet Blue).

On the return flight back I was on Spirit Air (unfortunately, this airlines stinks ...brand new planes, lousy customer service)... the flight was from Fort Lauderdale to Myrtle Beach and then onto Boston. Due to mechanical problems, we had to disembark in Myrtle Beach and wait for a plane to come in from Detroit to take us to Boston. This added an unexpected 3 hour layover in Myrtle Beach... it did have it's benefit though... the next terminal over from Spirit Airlines, I saw a brand new Virgin America airline pull up to ... It had the VIrgin America logo emblazed on the fuselage and tail but a DIRECT AIR log on the belly of the plane ...it looked REALLY SHARP!
I observed a full plane load of happy passengers exit the plane... it looks as though these folks seem to have their act together.
Let's hope so! Upon initial reconnaisance, I think we just may hit a home run with these folks.
