I see the T&G boys endorsed Mary Z. Conaughton for auditor, my choice also, but what i read in the T&G really kinda scared me.

Sure Mary is an auditor by trade, so it only make sense shes' teh most technically qualified cand. to be state auditor.

What really caught me off guard was that she has the endorsemnt of the 22,000 member state employee union.......ouch...!!!!!!

This REALLY CONCERNS me b/c when it comes time to make privatizing decisions for certain state services, it is the auditor who makes the final determination as to whether or not it is cost effective to privatize. Clearly a huge conflict of interest for Mary Z. ?????

Also keep in mind, thanks to the Pacheo Bill of yrs ago, the state cannot privatize any services unless it results in at least a 10% cost savings which of course is insanity.

This is analogous to having 2 gas station opposite each other.........one selling gas for $2.80 and the other selling it for $2.55. Using Masachusetts, logic the state cannot buy the less expensive gas b/c it only saves the state 9% not the mandated 10%. Anyone wonder why we're called Mass-Holes?

So when Mary is called on to make costing decisions will she "bring the numbers in" such that they only save the state 8%, for example, thereby getting her self off the hook, i.e. not meeting the mandated 10% savings

I raise this issue b/c going forward there is going to be a war between privatization advocates and gubmint employee unions. Best way to do away with this kinda war is just get the state out of certain sevices and layoff the employees who were performing the service. Then there is no cost savings debate.

Take the bridge and elevator inspecting bizz the state is now in, for example (pigeons and hobo's arent the only ones sleeping under bridges!). If a building has an elevator, then let the bulidngs insurance company mandated how & when it s/b inspected and building owners can hire a private inspecting service. Dittos for bridges.

Years ago there was no publicly provided/mandated fire service. Insuarance co's had their own fire service companies and if you insured with Allstate/Sears & Rubbish Ins. Comapny then the Sears fireman put out your house fire. How simple and not convoluted. If the Searsman gets hurt on the job he's covered by workmens comp. How simple. If he shows up at work all coked up or rum coked up......hes fired...how simple.

Change Jahn Can Believe In. Hows that for Change Deval?

Change that Tim can believe in......move a dozen Worc. businesses from their presnt sites and offer littel, if any assistance.

BTW, I am still waiting for change on airport hill.

Another article in the T&G

T.F. Green ribbon cutting of commuter rail link. Logan linking w/ T.F. Green. What does that do for Worcester Airport?

IN todays T&G (Mon 10-25) High Five No Jive Clive gives us his less than full disclosure when it comes to foreclosure.

When it comes to full dislosure, no where in this masterpiece is there any mention of the names Barney Frank or Chris Dodd.

Makes one wonder how many of Clives other opinion pieces leave out pertinent details and facts. Oooooooppppzzzzz.....I almost forgot, facts arent relevant if you're a colunmist and not a reporter.

I'll betcha if I researched these foreclosed properties, I might find that certain folks used their humble abodes like ATM machines in the not too distant past........now the bad behavior has come home to roost.

Anyone notice how fast the city is to condemn a building, yet the Great Brook Leaning Tower of Pisa at Clark & E. Mountains Sts. continues to lean further and further away from the perfectly perpedicular position.

Sewerage fumes emanting from Worcester Commons grounds 40+ unit apt building at Main & May Sts is of course never a reason to condem but a little water in a privately owned building = immediate condemnation........double standards everywhere........

I guess 25 Meade st is too scared to move against anything that Elmer Fudd's cronies may have an interest in.

Completely unrelated to politics, I cancelled my T&G subscription today. The last straw was when I called to cancel, their automated phone system hung up on me twice.

It's really sad that they are fundamentally unable to deal with technology. They want me to continue using an archaic method of news delivery, but won't put an operator on the phone, because it's too archaic.

I just tried their 'eEdition'. It locked up at 'Loading 0%" More technology fail on their end.

Maybe I'll get a Kindle and subscribe to the Wall Street Journal.

Steve the day may soon come when the T&G is weekly tab newspaper like many of teh towns have

If the big boys at teh NYT give us any sympathy there may be a weekly insert in the globe for central Mass.

One has to like the way Auburn moves owards their 10% lo income housing goal.........a local catholic church will lease land for 40 yrs to build 40(?) no/low units for the elderly low income.

oNly prblem is Jim McGovern and freinds will proably want to put druggies, drunks and hobos in there, too. Then dare I ask what happens when the 40 yr lease runs?

I give a rats derrieire ...right??....I wont be here..... ill be in St Peteres low income housing abodes in the sky.assuming I still toss a double saw buck in the basket on Sundaes.

Churches should not be in the housing buisness anymore than I s/b in the religion or confession business, but they will be the first to complain if had to evict my tenants b/c I got foreclosed on b/c none of their congregation pays the rent. The churches just do not get it.....THE RENT IS TOO GOD ++++'ING HIGH!!!!!!!

Wild Will O'Randell, did I read that piece right.........no low housing gets discounts on the local property taxes?

Bless me Padre' but Senor' Jahn and his ilk are gettign screwed here!!!!!!

Did anyone catch Carr later in his show today . He had a herald reporter-ette on & she has wrttien extensively in the Hearlad about 40B.

She made a few good points most Of which I have forgotten except for one, which she had a term for that I also forgot, but let's just call it 40b circle jerk that works in such a way the more 40B you build the more you are then forced forced to build more of it

If Worc had 10,000 market rate units of housing then 1,000 new units would have to be built to meet the 40b goal.....right.........well not quite b/c once the 1,000 no lo units are built Worc would have 11,000 (10,000 + 1,000) no lo housing units and to meet the 40B goal they would NOW have to have 10% x 11,000 or 1,100 units of no lo..SO NOW THEY would HAVE TO BUilD ANOTher 100 UNITS OF NO LO and on and on and on .........

This would make a great MCAS question.

Under 40B if Worc had 10,000 market rate housing units who many would have to be build before they met the 10% 40b req'mt?

a. 1,000
b. 1,100
c. 100
d. None of the above.

2ND MCAS QUESTION: write an algebraic equation to solve above question

Interestingly enough, the Herald reporter-ette gal said 40b can only be NEW CONSTR and that rehabbing an old factory building would not qulify as it's not new constr.

This brings me back to Worc's problem that makes 40b irrelevant. As an example look no furtehr than Worc Common Grds May St project. It is not 40b (as its not new constr + we're already over the 10% mandate)) and still it gets built even tho we're at 14%low income housings. Ditto's for Winn Dev'ment in the Chevalier building. Dittos for the Hadley.

OMG I heard a Harriet Chandelier add on car radio tonight, which in IMO isnt too bright and it leaves her kinda hangin' out there blowing in the wind. The add touts the money she brought to Worc for the Hand It Over Theatre.

BTW, aint heard much outta that place of late? Think of it as the 40b'ing of Worc's Fine Arts Community??? Restaurant progress update?
