!!!!!!!!!!! Great !!!!!!!!!...........now tonight they'll be closer to City Hall so when they can more easily make their annual pilgrimage across Main St to City Hall to bemoan what will turn out to be the highest Commercial property tax rate as well the highest absolute dollar payment....not to belitlle ttheir actions.......but the C OF C s/b doing thsi when city union contract negotiations are happening ..........b/c this is what is reeking havoc with the city budget and resultant taxes.
They should know by now that the horse has already escaped from the barn by November
BTW, I finnaly read sundays T&G last night............it is good to see the new market Worc group will ahve defined goals.....which if not met could result in their funding being pulled.............and I think this is really, truly a motivating factor..............b/c a huge part of their funding is from private sources...........and assumedly private interests will demand performance.......and if none.....then disband this group
Sorry i cant recall the new groups name........but will this group be working to market the airport, too??
The Chamber of Commerce, like the ORH, could be a great asset to the City of Worcester. Like ORH, the Chamber of Commerce also does nothing to help the bottom line.
Anonymous.......I assume the C of C costs us money to run..............and if does not accomplish anything then .....logically ...I guess it costs us money.... i.e. hurts the bottom line ??
Fidelity is now leaving Worc for Shrewsbury?? Nice ! They were on Front St all during the 80's and maybe even longer?.............then they moved to Belmont St in the early 90's .....opposite UMass...couple 100 yards from Shrewsbury
Think about it..........they blow outta Worc center area after being situated opposite the Common for a decade......can ya blame em .....given what the Common was like back then and given that they prob saw the handwriting on the wall as re: Worc Center......so they move a Mile east to Belmont St..............then 15 years later they move further east....to Shrewsbury.....this scenario is becoming a recurring theme
Just remember that do gooders building lotsa low income housing aint doing anything to help Worc.... the threshold amount of money to support certain kinds of businesses just aint in Worc anymore....not even a McDs or a Burger King can survive downtown
Screw me once on my Commercial taxes......shame on you.......screw twice....shame on me.............and I am outta here!!!
Anyone who votes for any incumbent councillors (cept Lukes) has got to have their head examined unless they work for the City

Bill ... don't forget the El Morocco, too for Worcester businesses, I could sure go for some kibbee and hummus right now!!!
Yikes..........i do toss a few bombs.............but..............the biggest, ticking bomb that I see is that the city is bankrupt......when all the unfunded futre obligations are factored in .......it aint even close
So may be I should go as a Dollar Bill......whaddya think?? {g}
ALso guys...re: all the dearly departed businesses listed......some of those succumbed just due to market forces..........city couldnt have done all that much
E.g. Palsons....they basically got Stapled....and the property best & highest use could now well be law office space??
Shaw's...the city may be over supermarketed...........and some clowns want (or wanted) see a supermarket on old Wyman Gordons site.
Manufacturers are effected by worldwide forces such as $.60 per hour labor overseas.
Dont forget that a large law or accounting firm moved out to Westboro a few yers ago too?
Charlies Diner....now in Spencer....still got great turkey sandwich, too ......real fresh turkey.......i heard they harvest it every Tuesday night at City Hall
A chamber of commerce that does not represent the businesses that are here hurts the bottom line. We have an election next Tuesday, who did they endorse? Nobody!!!
Anonymous what does the Chamber do for the business community? Nothing!!
One letter per year from the Executive Director when we set the commercial/residential tax rate is a joke!!
I think endorsing canidates is fine and guessing InCity would endorse anybody for the business community. As far as the Chanber is concerned why can't they promte an equal tax rate like I beleive we had before. This way we can equally tax both the residenial and the business the same?? I heard Major Lukes say it was a mistake 20 years ago to switch it so why doesn't the council switch it back with the support of the Chamber?
Maybe we should have asked the candidate to respond to questions on the airport? Actually this may have been a good idea two years ago, since the die is cast on the airport right now.
Next election I will take a more pro-active role in the election. Thanks for the advice anonymous.

Unlike ORH, the Chamber of Commerce does not hurt the bottom line.

It seems to me that if you don't like what the Chamber of Commerce is doing, you don't have to be a member.
Taxpayers don't have that luxury. If you choose not to pay your 'fees', the city will take your house.
BTW, who did the Worcester InCity Partnership endorse?
anonymous:
I am not a member of the Chamber, but that does not mean that they lack of performance still does not hurt our bottom line.
I do not think blog really should get into endorsing political candidates, but I will consider it in the future.
Thanks
