Analogy

Lets assume Jahn and I have two similar businesses where we both draw customers from the same catchment area. My business is run properly and thrives, while Jahn is losing money through his own mismanagement

  • He comes to me asks for some help. Why should I help? Well, what if he sells the business to some who knows what he, or she, is doing and they start taking some of my customers away.
  • I structure a deal where I take over management of the business and cover any of the losses to keep his business open. Eventually when Jahn decides to sell me the business, he agrees to credit me at closing for all losses that I cover.
  • Why should I turn his business around? If I turn it into a success, he will realize what he has. If I keep running it into the ground, I get credit for whatever losses I cover and I lower the overall purchase price.
  • Finally Jahn has had enough and agrees to sell the business. Even when we sign the paperwork to transfer his business to me, we do not even have a price established and will determine that later.

I am Massport and Jahn is ORH.

The reason Jahn's business is losing money is because it is a Fish 'N Chips store that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and fully staffed the whole time.

Back in 1962, when Catholics didn't eat meat on Fridays, he did a good business on Fridays.

The problem is that Fed'l gov't requires me to be open 24/7 in order to retain my status as a full service F&C operation and If I downsize to fridays only they will require me to pay back all the so called grants I have rec'd over the years includiiing immediately repaying about $15M loan for new waiting area they paid for about a dozens years.

Additionally my board of directors(Gang of 11 Councilors) receives "contributions" from MY F&C employees so they can hang on to their jobs.

Back in 1962 the F&C regulations were such that many of my commercial customers were mandated to use my F&C store even if they could save money by going elsewhere........or they would lose certain rights......but F&C's were deregulated under Ronnie Reagan and that was the end of my guaranteed commercial customer base

Also many Catholics are now eating cafeteria F&C's.

Almost as bad as UNUM agreeing to lease 100's thousands of commercial office space from a company that (per T&G) has no financing in place to erect the structure........but the lessor is reasonably confident they can make "headway" with the financing.
Similar to the 3+ years worth of headway they have made in razing the site.

Park Young, this gig is getting old. At least please get the demo permit pulled.

Jahn,

You are ASSUMING the feds will require repayment. They've never collected it from any other F&C establishment, in fact, they didn't collect if from the F&C place that bulldozed the place and built a park. The fact is that as long as you continue selling F&C, you don't have to pay back the money. You won't qualify for any more, and they'll stop paying for you five maitre'ds, but you can also let go 14 waiters, 14 busboys and 14 dishwashers that you've been paying.

HArry I used to prefer Arthur Treachers F&C's

I think there was one just above Webster Sq plaza (currnent DD's site??) back when I used to roam the area on all 4's and I was gradaully beginning to walk upright........slowly morphing into a Homo Sapien Erectus (git u mind outta the guttter,Harry !!! [g] )

I do recall a long john silvers too....somehwre in Worc....I'll bet maybe Wormy knew where it was at?............i think it was more of a resataurnt than Fast food joint...........maybe on outter grafton St???

Lettuce forget the F&C analogy.......that was a pi++ poor attempt at a comparison.

the pawn shop on Chandler Street briefly was a chain fish joint near murray ave

what was the name of that?

Harry T has to set the record straight: Arthur Treacher's was in Webster Square ... it is now the Webster Square Burger King ...in the late 1960s, early 1970's it was a Gino's ...not Papa Gino's ...just Gino's. The Pawn Shop on Chandler Street was a Popeye's Fried Chicken franchise (from New Orleans!!) .... hey you don't get to be 6 foot tall, 300 pounds by eating vegetables (Ok...5foot 11 inches and 285 pounds)

BTW, speaking of Fried Chicken, I have seen some Halal Fried Chicken spots opening around town ... Lincoln street where Quizno's was and Lincoln Street where Robert's F&C was ... Halal is the Moslem equivalent of Kosher meat. Has anyone tried their chicken yet? ...I hear it is suppossed to be good...
