Direct Air Review

I get alot of e-mails from people who fly Direct Air out of Worcester. Got to tell you the overall response that I get from anyone who flies Direct Air out of ORH has to be in the A to A+ plus range.

The only overriding complaint I get is the toll free number. People seem to stay on hold for a long time and many often just hang up. Some my advice is thjis:

  • use the Direct Air website
  • go direct to ORH when the Direct Air ticket counter is staffed Thursday, Saturday or Sunday

Gina and I were at Evo last night...we were talking to the bartender there (Alex) and he is a HUGE golfer and he didn't even know that they flew to Myrtle Beach... to make a long story short he is definitely considering using them for a long golf weekend... word of mouth is the best advertising.

BTW, a Friday night at the bar at Evo and NO sign of Paulie... what up wit dat ??? :-)

Other then the constant ads on WCRN and the occasional ad in the Telegram???

Where are they advertising?

Kind of surprised we have not seen more advertising from people in Myrtle Beach?

Was at Kay's Barber Shop and a guy walks in and says he just saw a Virgin Air Jet "that must have been making an emergency landing at ORH." He didn't know anything about Direct Air.

I'm flying back to Punta Gorda tomorrow (Sunday) for the third time out of Worcester. I have to say, the whole operation has been wonderful. No huge lines to wait in. The girls at the counter have always been friendly and are some of the most helpful people ever. Even a tall handsome policeman who works there has helped me with my bags. The plane is very nice and comfortable and the staff on the plane is very friendly and joke with the passengers. I ve never experienced such wonderful service.

Tall handsome policeman. Hmm...first name of TIM?? I know him, GREAT guy. Funny you should notice him.

Directair is just ok...I only use them because they fly into Punta Gorda which is close to home. Other than that the flights are always bumpy, always late by 10-20 mins for no reason at all but they say they are doing paperwork. The quik stopover on the way back in Sanford was 2 hours last trip! I really don't feel safe flying them and I don't know why i still do. When i go jetblue I feel like I am on the cadillac of planes.

Directair is horrible. Jets feel unsafe, always bumpy and hard landings. Never ever on time. Try callin customer service and see the runaround you get. No directair reps at any of the airports ever, just ticket agents who tell you to call customer service.

superb service to Orlando Sanford and oh so easy compared to Orlando International. Departure times and arrival times were excellent as was the price

will NEVER,NEVER use Direct Air again, the customer service is non existant!! flights cancelled with no notice at all from them, not once but twice!! no help from them on refund or rebooking, you get a voucher!! why would i want to fly again with them...do not waste your money...

sign up on line for their salesd. I got $111.00 round trip to Orlando. Extremelly pleased and Orlando Sanford is so puch easier than Orlando international. 100% will use them again

I am a HUGE supporter of the Worcester Airport, and I was so excited when DirectAir came in. When they added flights to West Palm Beach (for those of us who prefer the SE Coast of FL), I was ecstatic!

BUT BE CAREFUL EVERYONE! DirectAir is NOT JetBlue! Their Customer Service is TERRIBLE. They charge extra for everything, including your reserved seats, and then change the seats without telling you.

BEWARE OF THEIR "SALES!" I was so excited about flying out of Worcester to West Palm that I took advantage of their "2 for 1 Sale." I purchased "vouchers" in advance for a trip to West Palm in October 2011 and another one in April 2012.

THEN THEY CANCELLED THEIR FLIGHTS TO West Palm.

So I have tried contacting them by e-mail, by phone, even by letter, to ask them to extend my voucher that expires 10/31/2011. I've explained that I can't use it before 10/31/2011 because they aren't flying planes to West Palm until late November!

THEY DON'T CARE. That's right. They don't care. They said I can use them to fly somewhere else or I can sell them.

But they won't extend them even by one month!

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SET OF TICKETS. I'd rather drive to Boston and fly JET BLUE -- at least they know what true customer service is!

I am sorry to post this, but feel compelled to share what I believe is terrible business practices. I hope others won't make the mistake I made, it was costly, DA had $700 of my hard earned money and I have nothing. As someone stated in an earlier post, "this is a family owned and run business", too bad they don't exhibit any flexibility or family values. I purchased $700 worth of tickets, when events beyond my control made it impossible for me to use my tickets, I asked for an extention on the time limits and was told "absolutely not". Not much of a family in my book. I have flown them before and when their schedule wasn't on time, due to events out of their control, we sat patiently without a word, not one complaint since they were "family" for several hours. Our flight was probably one of the worst flights and most uncomfortable flying experiences I ever had, but I didn't say a word, except a few prayers that we would land safely. After all, weather conditions aren't controlled by DA. I have always flown Delta primarily, thinking I was saving a few bucks was the draw, what a joke. In the end, I have had better service, better prices and better flights with the old reliable airlines. Don't be fooled with this company, they only want your money and when they have it, they obviously don't care about their customers. I could go on with other examples about this company, but I think you get the message. I'll never fly Direct Air again. The reviews I have read here say it all when it comes down to the truth. No good company worth it's salt should allow these complaints to go unanswered

Horrible airlines, NEVER on time, flights cancelled due to no planes (twice in one week 7-2011)stranding passengers and they could care less about you. They won't return emails and call the number and they say they are only doing bookings and can't help you. Forget the cheap fares, remember, you get what you pay for.

How many of you people work with customer service? And how do you feel when you get screamed at for something you have no control over? There are agents there who answer the telephones, do you even think that they are trying their best to help you as much as they can? They have rules to follow as well and they can only do what they are told, or else they can lose their job, and in this economy it is very hard to find a good paying job and be able to keep it because it is so hard to find a job.. I bet if some of you work in the customer service department then you feel the exact same way when someone curses you about something you have no control over and can only do what you are told. Do you ever think they may be short handed which puts more stress on the few agents that do work 40 plus hours a week and still try to do their best for customers, I understand getting mad but talking about people is no way to solve an issued, we have no right to talk about or judge anyone...and for a few select people maybe you should read all of the TERMS AND CONDITIONS when buying family ties, it states all of the policies when buying them on the internet, as for you, it is your fault you get mad because you don't take the extra dew minutes to read about the tickets you are buying, and since they are a public charter, i have known of 1 of the airline companies they got the plane from to NOT EVEN SHOW UP after direct air has already paid for the plain so once again how is it their fault? Also since it is a public charter and the flights to West Palm Beach were cancelled most likely the reason is because they did not have enough passengers buy the tickets in order to get the plain, that is not their fault. If you do not like Direct Air then just simply do not fly with them!!

Have several requests in for Friends and Family dates. Has been more than a week still no response. When I called the 800 number it says all circuits are busy. I sent an e-mail with no response either.
Terrible Business Practices.

Direct Air Flight Attendants are as bad as you get. I know it is a cheap air line but the male flight attendants on last nights flight from Myrtle Beach where very unprofessional. The seat belt light never went off so they did not want you to go to the bath room the whole flight. They were able to go when ever they wanted.

I am so disappointed in Direct Air. I am afraid to return home on my flight. They are disrespectful. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am interested in reviewing their operational guidelines including maintenance records. Pay the extra money and fly another airline. Put SAFETY first

bought family ties ticket and can't use it. there is never a seat available.

The most frustrating travel experience I have ever had - I have been trying to get to South Florida for over a year with travel vouchers. They have cancelled flights every time I book them. I plan on submitting a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Again they are delayed flying to Punta Gorda, this needs to be investigated, almost every flight to Punta Gorda is delayed or sometime just plain cancelled due to lack of a plane.

I will not fly them again and recommend no one else should. The last three times the flights have been delayed by more than 5 hours.

Good god, if ONLY I had thought to look up this airline before booking!! PLEASE read the TripAdvisor forum post on DA. It dates from 2007, and has about 200 posts hating on DA.
We booked our flights to San Juan PR a few months ago, and based on getting that good airfare, we went ahead and booked a cruise we wanted to go on. Now, It's so close to the departure that the cruise is no longer refundable, the hotels are paid for (3 nts because of the semi-inconvenient flight dates) and they send us a cryptic email claiming they called us (a lie) about a change to our flights. We call them and the flights are cancelled, NO EXPLANATION, just too bad. I wrote corporate and got a form letter, 'we're sorry we had to cancel' Selfish, morons who don't give a crap that they ruin people's vacations or other plans.

Direct Air not getting any better! Would like to warn everyone!! We were very disappointed on our recent trip to Naples. We flew from Worc. to Punta Gorda. First off we found the flight times to be awful. Supposed to leave at 6PM; flight delayed till almost 8:30. This put us in our Naples home at almost 1:oo am. Return trip suppose to leave at 7 am on 12/10/11, but moved up to 6:oo am! Supposed to be a direct flight; that is what I booked. We got on the plane at 6 just to find out that we were stopping in Orlando?? Direct flight? Hardly!!! Rental cars much more expensive in Punta Gorda.. Not user friendly at all, not a direct flight..$2.00 for a water?? All in all bad experience and would suggest others seek alternate means of transportation!!

Pay a few bucks more and fly a real airline! Forever late and they NEVER post delays in advance. I've had 2 out of 3 flights 3+ hours late, arrived at 5 AM for a check-in, no delays posted on the Direct Air website, not on flightstats, and not at the ariport until shortly before departure time. Plus they contract for service with 3rd parties (like Miami Air) and I doubt the same level of safety as the majors. It's cheap yes, but get what you pay for!

DA is short on customer service but
it is offset by cheap fares. When announcements are made before take off you can hardly understand them which is not fair to the passengers.
Announcements should be slow, clear and concise before the plane takes off. annonymous

booked on-line from Pitt to Myr. Just as i was about to confirm in noticed i had the wrong date. i thought my bad, and went back and fixed it. double and triple checked it. confirmation comes through later with those same wrong dates on it. still willing to take the blame i sent them the problem via contact page on their site. got a response that stated to call and of course pay 100.00 plus and extras. again, no problem, till you try and call. three days later and i have still not gotten through on the phone. tried e-mailing again several times with no response.

This is the worst airline ever! To make a long story short our flight to West Palm was delayed 3 hours because the pilot was too inexperienced to land in the cloud ceiling. They actually announced this. The flight to Punta Gorda came in and left during this time. On the way home no one was informed (including the website) that our flight would have a "slight" delay, yes that is what they said, which was 4 hours! We only found out as we stood at the checkout line manned by one girl for a line filled with a hundred people. Having dropped off our rental car we were stuck at the airport for seven hours because, surprise, surprise the plane was actually 5 hours late. I booked this as a 7 AM flight that got changed (no notice) to 4PM that actually left at 9. Never ever again!

My wife and/or I have flown DA 3 times and had problems all three.
Called the airport (ORC) 2 hrs before flight to see if all on time- answer-yes. Arive 30 mins later to find a 2hr delay now in place. The fight was to have left ORC at 2:30 when I booked it arriving in West Palm at 5:15PM. A week before, received notification the flight had changed to a 7:45PM departure and a 10:45 PM arrival! We canceled dinner plans that evening in WPB with friends. Once the plane arrived, we were informed we had to run up to Plattsburgh, NY to drop folks off from Lakeland, FL as that plane had mechanical issues so the WPB plane was diverted to Lakeland to pickup those passengers. Finally arrived in WPB at 3:30AM and then the plane was headed to Lakeland to drop those folks off by 5:15AM!
Next flight from ORC to WPB was also delayed by 90 mins, no explanation. The flight home was to have been a non-stop but they took us to Niagra Falls first and then into ORC!
Third flight to ORC on a Sunday was cancelled after 3 hrs sitting in the airport. Flew out on Monday which was an unscheduled flight, missed one day of work uncompensated, they only covered half the motel room and offered $12 for dinner.
The last plane we flew had all warnings and indicators in German so I don't know where this "Charter" service operated by Sky King Air gets these planes from! We will not fly them again which is sad because ORC is so convenient.

Leave from Worcester, MA for first trip to disney with our 11 year old daughter. Flight leaves 1/2 hour late - not too bad. Once we board the plane, we are told by the captain that we have to stop in Atlantic City, NJ for fuel because due to wind and amount of people on plane, if fully fuel may not be able to get off the ground because of the length of the runway. Ok get to Atlantic City for 15 minute stop for fuel - 45 minutes later(after a very rough landing) we finally take off for Sanford, FL. Finally arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes late! Then, on Thursday,a co-worker sends me a text to check with my airline - flights suspended until May 15, 2012! We leave Disney to go back to our rental house to get online and on the phone to make alternate plans to get home! Thousands of dollars later, we have flights to get home on another airline(2 days early) because these are the only flights available!Lost 2 days of vacation at Disney because of their IRRESPONSIBILITY!! We can't get that time back with our daughter and from what we can tell, we MAY get reimbursed for our portion of ticket that we did not use, but what about the money we spent for alternate transportation(which cost us a couple thousand dollars), and the 2days at Disney that we lost not to mention the nights we lost at our rental home! The saying is so true - "cheaper is always better - you get what you pay for". Shame on you Direct Air - I hope that you are out of business forever!
