Telegram Article today on the movie crew at ORH. Absolutely hilarious. Paulie's NOLAFest had more economic spin-off then this. Best line
Richard P. Walsh, spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority, which operates Worcester Regional Airport, said that because Direct Air — the charter air carrier that flies out of the airport — did not have any flights scheduled during the week, there was no interruption of commercial air traffic at the airport.

You really want an amazing stat... Game 1 of Worcester vs. Quebec at Fitton Field in Worcester had a published attendance of 600 ... 600! ... who knows how many were paid attendance.... this was for GAME ONE OF THE CAN-AM CHAMPIONSHIP !!!! I don't know what the attendance was for game 2 in Worcester but game 3 in Quebec drew 5000+ people ... with Eric "Gag me" Gagne pitching for Quebec... YIKES! So a championship game in Worcester gets 600 people and Paulie pulls in 1000+ on the quietest weekend of the whole summer in Worcester for NOLAfest. THis speaks volumes!
Where was the Chamber of Commerce to promote game 1 & 2 of a professional sports championship being held in Worcester? ... what about the visitor's bureau? ... people watching on TV in Quebec must have thought...WTF?!?!?!?!

Did we have any private, general or other air trafficus interputus?
Bill you forgot mention the irony in the fact that at an airport they had to build themselves a gift shoppe.....WTH...never look
a gifthorse in the mouth.......
Does the law of unintended consequences result when you have an airport with little or no air traffic? The next thing you know every Hollywood airport shoot is done at Worcester Airport. Afterall, it is an industrial park area and movie making is an industry.
Wait until the state tax credits expire for the film making industry in Mass. More cobwebs at the airport
Were there any Local 170 pinkie ring union thugs up there who sleep all day in the truck because no driving is required that particular day. The Worcester cops are also in Local 170??.
Fast forward to 2018. Standing T&G Headline:
DOWNTOWN WORC AGAIN HOSTS ANOTHER FILM MAKING CREW
Hollywoods newest movie coming for Christmas this year, "Ghost Town" starring William Randell, Jr who cut his teeth as a Worcester T&G sometimes editorialist and sometimes radio talkmeister................................................and also in memory of and tributes to Mr David Z. who drank the proverbail Kool Aid when Worcesters newest proposed downtown commercial project had the plug pulled on it nine years ago.
Worcester has experienced unpredecented growth as a film making venue for every Hollywood movie that is needs a real life, abandoned urban setting. A city of 180,000 that has a downtown that could not even support a Mc Donalds and a Burger King has now landed the film making industry when they are in search of urban wastelands.
One huge benefit for the industry is the especially low/no costs for stand ins, hobo's, drunks, druggies, homeless, and other assorted human debris which can be found for really short money in Worc has been a big boon for the film Industry in Worcesters abandoned donwtown....
Unreal....word verification ....WHOOKER......as WR, Jr would say cant make this up...
Methinks Jahn has resurfaced under a new pseudonym. Welcome back! And I loved the editorial comment on Dewey Evans a.k.a. DavidZ.
From the T&G comments section regarding the movie Shutter Island that tried to film at Worcester State Hospital but instead went to Medfield due to political pressure...
State Rep. Vincent A. Pedone, D-Worcester, whose district includes the former hospital, said Medfield can keep the wine-sipping studio types as long as Worcester gets its 300-bed, state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital. The hospital project, described as the largest non-road capital project in the history of the state, is expected to employ hundreds of hungry construction workers for years and hospital staff long after that.
'To put all that in jeopardy to have Martin Scorsese driven around in his limousine to look at the little diners on Shrewsbury Street would have been foolish,' Mr. Pedone said. 'Maybe Medfield has people in their diners at noon, but what we're going to have on top of that hill is a $300 million investment that's going to employ people for the next 50 years.'
Fast Forward to the present... the Shutter Island BLOCKBUSTER movie is coming out in 2010...Medfield made MILLIONS in economic spinoff...and Worcester State Hospital is dormant...the city is broke, the state is broke...ask those 'little diner owners' on Shrewsbury Street if they would have liked to have the movie crews there for WEEKS. Wichita generated hundreds of thousands of $$$$$ for 2 days!!!! Imagine what a movie production that lasted weeks in Worcester could have produced in economic spinoff?!?!?!?!?!
Great job, Vinny !!!!!!!!!!! Hey Shrewsbury Street...you get what you vote for...

Methinks you are correct!

I am having to nice a time watching the sunset at mayflower beach inm east dennis
According to this website:
http://www.canamleague.com/09scores.php
Can Am Baseball Championship Series attendance:
Game 1 in Worcester: 642
Game 2 in Worcester: 741
Game 3 in Quebec: 5011
Game 4 in Quebec: 3744
642 and 741 for a championship series? Once again...where was the Chamber of Commerce? ... where was the Visitor's bureau? ... a chance to showcase the city to a Canadian province and we can't even fill the stadium at 20% capacity? A 2 for 1 deal ... a discount for city employees ... public unions... St. V's employees, UMASS employees, etc would have filled the stadium. Where was the marketing for this?...by the team?...by the city?...Chamber of Commerce? ...visitor's bureau?
An embarassment if you ask me...
Just my 2 cents...
