Rumor has it that there may be someone, male from D4, making an announcement shortly for Mayor...

According to the calendar we should see some inspiring political announcements over the next few weeks - and we must be due for another press conference telling us to hold our breath for the imminent (since 2004) arrival of wrecking balls at the mall. Perhaps the political announcements will be coincident with the wrecking ball discussion.

Does it really matter who is Mayor?

The Mayor is a mere figure head with zero executive authority whose job is to basically be

a. president of the City Council,

b. chair the council & school committe meetings,

c. honor fallen heroes,

d. attend ribbon cutting ceremonies,

e. read useless proclamations,

f. Legislate & form policy,

g. and stay the hell outta everyones elses business.

Problem is that Levy, Mariano, and Murray tried to make the job more than it really is and Levy almost got sued over it.

Kate Toomey for Mayor....gimme a break.......although if teh Q Man and the rest of the school dept gets behind her it is possible........wonder if Kate saw that Leominster has privatized their cafeteria food services workers??.....to save the school dept some money....ooops i forgot there goes your voting base if you privatize school cafeteria workers (and custodians, too)......time to cut the umbilical cord between city labor and the city taxpayers

Bill,

Slightly off topic but there is a great article in today's Boston Globe about the University of Lowell buying a downtown hotel for student housing.

I say only slightly off-topic because the rumored announcement is D4s Joe O’Brien. Imagine if we could get Clark or heaven forbid Holy Cross to invest in our downtown core. Kudos to MCPHS for their commitment to our urban core. I will say that Clark at least invests much money within their D4 neighborhood.

As for the latest mayoral announcements, it will be all for naught. Konnie has a strong base and the others will just split the anti-Konnie votes.

I would rather see local colleges investing in the downtown like the story you mention or like MCpHS then to have make a PILOT payment.

Just what we dont need on the CC, another career hack. Read the guys bio sketch on his blog....has he ever held a real job in his life. It reads to me like the consummate lifetime hack..........currently employed by Mr James Mc Governs office........the same Havana Jim who gave us abundant amts of NOLO housing here in worcester.......the same Havana jim who gave us Deval (cut my property taxes) Patrick......and the same Havava jim who thinks every unemployed bum is entitled to a mortgage.

I do have to hand it to him for living in Main south area...............wonder if Mc govern made that a stipulation for his current position working for Mcgoverns office.........

Gimme Konnie or give me death.......
