The Chandler Business Group, represented by Paul and myself, recently met with some City officials about problem properties. One of my pet peeves has been the district sweeps by CMET (City Manager Enforcement Team). It ends up with lots and lots of code violations, and not fault of the members of CMET, but does it really address the problem. The ironic thing is if they were to go to my mom's street in Tatnuck Square and do the same sweep, it would also result in hundreds of code violations.
The CMET team is good but we should have them focus on the habitual offenders. Years ago I read in a report by Roberta Schaefer. In it a recommendation was made to have CMET focus on a "Dirty Dozen" listing of properties, like they were doing in Toledo. In fact I met with City Manager Hoover and Paul LaCava and made the recommendation.
Coupe of weeks ago, I brought it up again. Paul loved it and has been placed in charge of getting the "Dirty Dozen" program going. Today he calls me and tells me to check out the Boston Herald, click here.

It’s been nearly a year since I wrote about the problems that come from
having 11 bosses who are not on the same page about anything, as well as

I'll take my free beer today Dave Z...I'll be at EVO talking to members of the Emmanuel Baptist Church about their participation in this years Paulie's NOLA Jazz & Blues Festival...which is real and will be happening:>)at 3pm:>)
Hindsight but after driving thru all the great squares in Somerville, Cambridge and parts of Boston - not just one big downtown..it really made me wonder how much the rest of the city squares suffered because of the city putting all of it's efforts into City Square...the Canal District was not a city initiated project it was the foresight of residents and business owners..the city jumped on board...some of the things we are beginning to do in the Village of Piedmont are happening because of residents and business owners and we hope the city jumps on board..perhaps City Square is just to big for this city...is there really any data out there that Shrewsbury Street, the Canal District have to be connected...with downtown for downtown to succeed....
Shrewsbury Street is nice but has the neighborhoods grown from it?? are people moving to the Shrewsbury Street neighborhoods because of it like they do in many cities in Greater Boston including Boston...has the housing stock been improved much??
Opinions change..I am not sure City Square should have or should be the focus..cleaning up the numerous other urban neighborhoods with plans in place should be a priority..if everything is crap around downtown then who is going to want to live there??
