Another good story by Nick K. Still amazes me how little we know about the sale of an asset like ORH when we are so close to the actual transfer date.

What is not being said re: the sale of the airport is that when we clear away all the chatter, smoke, & dust is that the airport is basically not unlike a distressed asset or a distressed house that is near foreclosure.
The city took millions in Fed'l loan money ($20M?)to build a new terminal that was not really needed and clearly, with the benefit of hindsight, definitely not needed now. As a result, the city has been upside down on cash flow ever since the payments on the note started. Enter Massport, the rich uncle, to offload money ($2M?) annually to keep the airport afloat. Eventaully the rich uncle gets the place for short money.
The lesson that is never learend here in Worc. is that taking money from Washington DC can be detrimental to the citys financial health. Low income housing is another classic example.
On another topic, Mrr. Nemeth was giving kudos and atta boys to the Worc. Mun. Research Bureau in yesterdays Sunday paper. I agree they do a good service for the city. I read it very quickly and not in its entirety, so I might be missing a few of his points.
Problem is that the city rarely gives the WMRB's recommendations much consideration.
This 35 member so called task force (of which Roberta Schaefer, WMRB head honcho) could use many of these recommendations. IMO the first thing Roberta should do is get all teh business friendly recommendations that the city council has relegated to the filing cabinet and list each one and ASK the city, task force, the school committee, and the city council why each recommendation has not been implemented in the past. And there can be no bobbing and weaving around the answer. We need answers to why these recommendations of the past have been side stepped. If the parties involved will not answer, then If I was Roberta Shcaefer I would immediately resign from teh so called task force. IMO this will show us if the city is serious re: this behomoth of a task force or if this is just another dog & pony show, complete will all the usual Horse ++++ and circus clowns and with a new ring leader
