If this rumor is in fact true, I think it is a good sign that someone else is waiting in the wings already to take over the site.

Do you know what the status of the proposed restaurant next to the Hanover Theatre is? It is far past the time that the plywood needs to come off of the windows. What an eyesore next to the beautifully restored Hanover.

I have wonder if the Hand It Over Theatre owners have slowly come to realize that operating a rest. is a very, very, very risky undertaking.

Then consider:

a. the econ. that we are in,

b. their lack of experience in this line of business,

c. the lack of any public subsidies, private donations, or "Restaurant Home Funds" for establish such an eatery,

d. the reality that it takes more than a "Hand It Over Theatre Captive Dining 'Audience' " to make a viable realtively high end extablishment viable.

e. and lastly the track record of a place like the Pearl St dining venue (3 operators in 5 years?).

I would not be surprised to see lobbying for some kind of public giveaway before this project comes to fruition.

BTW will the deeply discounted (free?) parking rates that the Hand It Over Theatre enjoys at teh Fed'l Sq garage also aplly to those who ONLY patronize teh proposed rest., but not the theatre itself. If so then I expect free parking next time I hit Coney Island or the 4th July Summer National Burnouts. All I ask for in the land of equality is Parking Parity.

Jahn; have you actually parked in the Federal Square Garage and attended anything there? When does deeply discounted (free?) parking rates begin? I attended a Hanover Theatre event as recently as March 9th and the parking fee at the garage was the same as it always is...$10 for the event. You really need to get out more and experience the wonderful things this city has to offer. :)

David, the T&G reported that back when The Hand It Over Theatre opened that the city gave them specail parking rates. If it's in teh T&G then it Must be true?????

I assume maybe you missed what I said toward the end of my posting:

"I expect free parking next time I hit Coney Island or the 4th July Summer National Burnouts"

Clearly, I do get out and I hopefully expect to be in the Pickle Barrel on Wedn. or Thursday morning. I only wish Worc had more local donut shoppes....one of my favorite kinda places to stop into and read Howie Carr [g]

Sorry The Hand It Over Theatre just isnt my kinda venue. Bring the Stones there and I might go. Hell they were at the AUD in the mid 1960's..no reason The Hand It Over Theatre cant land them on their next tour and if they cant thne maybe I"ll have to wait until the Stones come to one of Mass's proposed casinos???????

I also remember some deal on the parking, but I don't remember any of the details.

I've been to few Hanover shows, and had cheap parking every time....at the library. If we get a Central Mass. Casino, the Hanover will probably close or have to change their focus.

It would br a shame to see 55 Pearl close. I've had some excellent meals thete. I don't think either Tinovo or 55 Pearl suffered because of poor management. Both chefs were talented and experienced. I think the location/price range scares Wormtown's finest diners away. I can't say the same for the italian place between Tinovo and 55 Pearl.

I tried to Google the topic and had many hits, but I didnt have time to read them all.

THey did get a deal re: the parking. I specifically and with 100% certainty recall that the city anted up dinero so the facade of the garage could be cleaned up a bit as well other facelift/cosmetic type items, including, butt not limited to Botox. The Hand It Over Theatre patrons from Howie Carrs' favorite suburban locales of Deluxebury & Swellesley wouldnt want to get their evening gowns covered with Worc grime from the stairwells of the Fed'l' Sq parking garage...now would they?

Again, the old memory is fading but seems to me the Hand It Over Theatre may have shared in the parking receipts? Again, I cant recall for sure, but there was a deal and I assume it's still in place.

You want city subsidies, just form a non profit. If You want to get your financial ass kicked from here to Kingdom come & back...form a for profit in Worcester Additionally, the non profits can then fleece their private donors so the non profit CEO's can rake in mucho salary and bennies.........if one can believe what was written in Sundays ( 4-25) T&G.

Stealing a phrase from a well known Worcester businessman, "is it just me" or did anyone else notice what was missing from yesterdays T&G story on local non profit CEO's salary listings. I didnt see any salary listing for titans of Worc's low income housing industry. Shiver me timbers Popeye. Someone should e-mail the authro of that piece and tell them they left out one of Worc's largest non profit industry groups CEOs cash grab.

Also were there no listings of college & hospital CEO's salarys. I think I saw only 1 or 2 smaller medical type non profit CEO's salary listed?

Heard from someone I trust that the latest deal to keep 55 Pearl open has fallen through and it's closed.
