new green line delayed but still coming...thats two new MBTA line extentions-green and orange
If the Telegram was not able to report any real estate having to do with some type of Gob't subdsidy (TIF, CDC, WBDC or now SMOC), there would be very little to report

I'd be curious to know since the PIP Closure Commission made its recommendations how, many of them have been implemented and what has happened that was not part of the plan.
I wonder if the plan is online?
I think that MLK, SMOC, Dudley/Jacques, Anna Maria, and overcrowding of the Community Health Link "PIP"/ triage center were not part of the original plan.....and....if they werer part of the plan what about full disclosure when the plan was released?
So in less than 2 years (?) the wheels have come right off the PIP closure plan. How can anyone have any confidence in what the authorities and leaders tell us about SMOC/PIP.
Senor Pedro Jahn......it does seem like the City expected UMASS to have control of the program for some time.....unfortunately there seems to have been a disagreement on how the new program was being run by UMASS...and the state was involved not just the city.....many seem to think SMOC will run the program better...it is designed to deal with the chronic issues not an open house like the former PIP.....one can not just walk in looking for a place to chill.
No question that there is a whole lot of angst but what is the alternative.....fight the Dover Amendment which would cost thousands of dollars and also open one up to penalties like Framingham did (ONE MILLION)....or sit down and make as best a deal as possible......
Any local Pol that states ignorance should not be re-elected....most just burying their heads in the muck hoping they dont have to deal with and most havent had to cause this stuff locally always remained in D4.......John Binienda and Bill Eddy knew of this before the city council meeting when it was announced almost two weeks back.....neither notified their constituency....John Bienenda damn near encited a riot.....I can understand the neighborhood to be pissed, angry, worried and disgusted - so were we in the VOP and still are BUT I expect leaders to act like leaders....i hope we are making the right decision and this works out....time will tell
TY for the update Paulie.
So, is the jury still out, did PIP closure Plan actually work as planned?
SO if the cops pick up a drunk out of the gutter and bring him to Anna Maria or to Jacques St (in about a yr. or so??) and the guy doesnt want to be"triaged" then what result. Suppose a guy signs into triage only to leave the next day and then be brought back by the cops 36 hs later, what result. And dare I ask this, that drunks who do get their act together are going to be able to find housing just as easily at some make it appear. I mean many if not all of these types, often have checkered pasts, police records, housing courts records, and the like.......so if I beleive their advoactes they are jus tgoing to go out and find housing....VIOLA!!!...........just like that w/o even having a job?
Or maybe we'll get a brandie new lodging housing built in Jacques/ Dudley St area targeted to the SMOC new triage releasees?
good questions Senor Pedro Jahn some I can not answer...our neighborhood had the same worries that ANY neighborhood has...increased body traffic on Chandler around the stores especially at the liquor store and we have not experienced this...there is a school very close by - Chandler Elementary and there has been no trouble there with this issue..other issues related to eduacation but not the triage center...I am not trying to paint a rosy picture here..but first year out it has been run like we were told it would be run....
they are only allowed to stay in the triage for x amount of hours..I believe 36 and then they are transported elsewhere for more stable housing...and future job training....if a guy or gal after sleeping off the drink/drug wants out I do not know what the plan is....
SMOC had been using the nursing home prior to it's foreclosure and with no incident - told to neighborhood meeting last week....I think that SMOC and the city arranged the neighborhood meeting once a lease was signed...I do not know the zoning for a nursing home in that area and what zoning SMOC intentions would come under but they must be close in requirements......but the discussion about the neighborhood not being told is really moot...by law they did not have to be but this information once it was known was discussed at the city council meeting a week before, was in the newspapers and was available to all local pols...the first meeting was almost two hours long..going longer was not going to accomplish anything...my opinion that a first meeting where everyone expresses their anger is the norm...it was like this for our neighborhood (less vitriolic)...then the future meetings the neighborhoods get down to business like we are doing in the VOP.....if they can beat this power to them..I dont think they can and it will be expensive...and by the time the issue gets resolved SMOC will be gone...so my suggestion is make the best deal with the city and SMOC....form a committee of level headed folks and make sure that the program is run like it is being told it will be run...
