I dont fault the city for all of this...other factors are at work, too......but
What does it tell us when there is not enough business OUT THERE to support Hotel rooms....Howrds Johnson Hotel was razed by Holy Cross about 10 yrs ago...as was The Yankee budget Motel at old Lincoln plaza......but we did have a new one built downtown...any other new ones built??? My point is that not enough business nor recreational travel evidently comes here to support hotels/ motels....which i guess is consistent with no business travel coming or flying here......which i guess is consistent with no business here....
which comes first ........the travel infrastructure or the business.........not sure but looking at Rte 495 corridor .......I'd have to conclude the travel infrastructure came first......then the businesses..........likewise for Rte 128
Maybe Barbara Haller can accomplish something constructive, as opposed to destructive (causing Main St Buildings to meet an early demise) and get the PIP Shelter out of here.......this is basically also an unneeded Hotel........except I think they do serve dinner?......and you cannot check in until late afternoon & check out time is 800am.....but the price is right

On a different note, if any of you guys are familiar with Neil Peart, drummer of the rock bank Rush, he wrote a book called 'Ghost Rider'.

My wife and I , in order to get away from the grief we were encountering due to the death of our boy employed a similar tactic in just packing up and 'just driving' on Route 1A along the Mass/NH/Maine seacoast for a couple of days. We found a bed and breakfast with no telephones/internet/cable tv/newspapers/etc and just had a chance to have a good cry/chat. What I found along that journey truly amazed me from an ORH prospective.
It seems the $10 Skybus flights have had a HUGE economic impact on the Portsmouth, NH / seacoast area!
Just talking to shop owners, restauranteurs, inn keepers, etc ...they can't wait for the 2 flights a day to roll in! I was reading the journal entries in our room of the guests that had stayed there previously. Under the 'Reason for Staying' section of the log, I lost count of how many "$10 Skybus flight" entries I found! ...and a huge contingent of travelers from the Mid-West / Ohio Valley area. Now that's economic spinoff!
Bill was right, we truly blew it with Allegiant, but we also screwed up in not picking up Skybus, too.

Now is the time to get a lawyer and have the decibel level in your home measured. Your general aviation airport is getting completely rebuilt for private aircraft owners. Plan is to abandon current 4500' runway, re-orient the runway direction and increase the length to 5500'. This will get rid of current restrictions over some neighborhoods. FAA managers who fly private aircraft (HAVES)are ponying up 90% of the bucks generated by commercial users(HAVE NOTS) flying thru Boston Logan. This will increase the recreational space available thru Worcester and into Nantucket for the few. Plus it voids pesky lawsuits by homeowners in current flight paths.
However, homes affected by new flight paths will have a limited time window to prove increases in their homes interior noise levels during peak flying times. This could lead to FAA sponsored sound-proofing of your home by replacement windows and/or siding as it has in East Boston.
It's your money anyway. You pay into a fund everytime you buy a commercial ticket. It should have been used to update electronics at major commercial airports and increase flight safety but it has not. It has been earmarked for the few who can afford recreational aviation but you have an opportunity to get your contribution back.
