Did anyone catch the manager on WTAG this morning. He was asked about the airport. IMO, he didnt sound too perky about it.......said what has been said here many times.........i.e. he's got a weak hand negotiate to from........given that we are limiting ourselves to only one potential suitor.

IMO, the airport is further down the list of priorities now than it was just 1,2,or 3 years ago. Obrien really has his hands full every year with this budget fiasco.......it's burning up far too much of his time than it should be and as a result other city issues are forced to the back burner....few more years of this financial instability....and all his time will be spent on budget matters......unless he's replaced by a receiver in bankruptcy.....feds are cutting back money to state.....states are broke and they cutting back on money given to cities & towns.............the money will never make it to the municipal level........it was 5 months into the current fiscal year (Nov, 2007) before we had a balanced budget (allegedly balanced)

What I do not understand is then why don't we simply cut the airport back to a General Aviation Facility and try to get ORH back to a break-even enterprise account???

Bill I think because:

1. City is still holding out hope for Massport.

2. I assume it will mean cutting employees and no councllor will sign on to that.

3. It's a psychological blow to our city "ego" to have a metro area with no real airport, although I guess that's what we have now or at least we still have the hope

The only good thing that may come of this is that city is forced to look elsewhere for a suitor.....but it's a long shot.....b/c IF Massport takes over.......teh city at least has some "quasi" control over the place though the political process.........if a private operator comes in the city losses the potential of "political control" of the place if Massport was there.

This place is becoming like the 45 year son living in his parents basement who is living off the parents money and getting a gov't check once a month.

Speaking of Econ dev.....it's fantastic news that Wyman Gordon is thinkng of bringing some manufacturing operatiosn back to Worc. high paying factory jobs = great news.

MMMMMMMMM .......so how will this settle with the Banal District afficianados and the council......a manufacturing operation almost bordering on the site of newest city park to be built??

Also, who is coming up with the idea of converting the closed up Shaws on lower grafton St into an ice skating arena? Will this be in addition to the Common ice skating Pond and another facility for the already overburdened DWP to maintain.

This idea is not really germane as the City moves forward.
