Major Taylor Blvd

Just went on to Yahoo Yellow Pages to look up the number for Unos to get a pizza. Two addresses come up:

  1. 25 Major Taylor Boulevard
  2. 25 Worcester Center Boulevard

One would think there are then two Unos, but they are in actuality one in the same. Only in ORH! BTW. If I was standing in front of Med Center and someone pulled up and asked me where Major Taylor Boulevard was, I would have no clue.

we got a major new area in the city that we are trying to promote and there isn't one reference to it in the area - Canal District.

Lots of folks making major investments in the District..me one of them and on limited time for the Canal Diggers 5Km that was a huge draw in 2007....many drive right thru Kelley Square looking for it.

As we discussed yesterday..a historic site atop Queen Street and not one historic marker..plenty of talk about yellow boxes but none about stuff that actually may make some good folks at least ponder about staying here..

BTW..this is not an internet bitch moment for me..I have made mention of the Queen Street issue now for 3+ years and the Canal District for 1+ and to important folks

Paulie are you talking about the Wayfarer program?

Is the canal district official now...thought we were spending $750,000 of Mc govern funds on a "study"

You're losing me here.........dicussion???...historic maps??.Yellow box talk??

As the city continues to devolve, the board of directors is worried about re-naming streets.......and other minutae.........is it Front St they now what to re name.........to JFK Blvd???..........and there is or was a move afoot to re-name Chandler St ???

BTW, it's still Worc Center Blvd to me also.

Also.......when you think about it...... should Main St still really be called Main St??

okay how about just a sign that said "another Worcester Entertainment/Cultural Zone" so that those who are investing money and time into the "another Worcester Entertainment/Cultural Zone"..can get some help:>)

BTW..I am all for "another Worcester Entertainment/Cultural Zone" that is steeped in Blackstone Canal design, lore however I am not for the waterway...I have been in the city long enough to realize that we as a city do not have the experise/abilty to manage such an endeavor

I heard the term Theatre District used the other day????

I can only assume that is the Hanover Theatre, which abuts the Arts District....

Paulie I dont think we got the money for anymore Districts..................first we need money..........then we'll worry about the expertise........

and If you wonder why we dont have to money....look no further than Councillor Rushtons comment on Stoltzs show fri afternoon.....he says we have 600 city empolyees currently on IOD status (Injured on duty)......they draw 100% of their pay (tax free?).....this had got to be a mistake or I misunderstood what he said???..............I'd like call his office and verify this............that's 12% of the city's workforce being paid to do nothing........then there always my never ending compliant about 10 paid sick days on average annully for every city employee..............and does anyone wonder where all teh money is going...........to pay employees to not work !!!!!!...........will the council ever touch this.....no way in hell.....

I am telling ya the reciever in bankruptcy cant be too far way

I would have to agree with you on the City Council not touching..we have em' publicly calling out residents/voters/taxpayers on other blogs about the fire fighter issue when 90% were merely
questioning why the Mayor was out of line for asking for the CC to make sure all the T's were crossed and I's dotted..even if Konnie was grandstanding a wee bit (what Pol doesn't do this-it's the nature of the beast).

I just wonder if this current CC could operate if the population shifted a wee bit in the right direction...I have experienced a population shift (gentrification) in Cambridge and Somerville..owned in both and those townie CC's who could not deal with questions from newcomers usually didn't last long...those townies who could and were able to work with new folks to a city..you saw the cities flourish

Paulie, isnt Cambridge residentail property all under rent control?

Rushton likes to grandstand ,too........i mean what is this proposed Rushton Breastfeeding Ordinance (RBO) all about....first we have the REO Ordinance...now we're getting. The RBO ordince ......methinks I sense a bit of a sore loser ( not Mayor) in him..........???

rent control in Cambridge has been gone for 10+ years..not all residential but a high percentage..I lived in a rent control flat for 13 years outside Harvard Square..now that was a "City on the Move"

I was just down on Water Street...no foot traffic at all....few folks anywhere..An Cu Liath Irish Pub dead, Jose Murphy's dead, Blackstone Tap dead...for a beautiful day I expected to see the sidewalks crowded..Green was quiet also

Anyway..off to Gilreins tonight..two lovely lasses on each arm..stop by..beers on me

In light of Paul's rendezvous with two lasses tonight, does the RBO apply to adult men?

Jahn..you got to get out to a real city or town once in a blue moon...Blackstone Plaza off Rt 146 yesterday was jammed...you couldn't get into a restaurant at 4PM...all the stores were jammed..I had to go to the Verizon store for a new charger..no place in the city..a fnn city and I couldn't get a charger for my cell phone

...I went down to Wings on Water Street afterwards for a nibble before the night out..

I guarantee you all the window's were open in the pubs in Davis Square and they were jammed to..thats what folks do after walking around, shopping in a city..pop in around 4PM for drinks and food..well in a city:>)

I was stopped at the red light at Piedmont and Chandler last night..looked right into my favorite Hispanic Restaurant..not anymore..nothing but gang cats in there...and about 2AM..near riot coming out of Suney's-6 cruisers...it has become a "brotha & sistah" hang out on Saturday nights...does any group in this city celebrate with out maiming each other??? Carnivals, Family Restaurants....ugggg

Interesting...I was at the Michael Imperioli (Christoph-ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! from the Sopranos) concert at the Lucky Dog at 11:00pm on Saturday night, every bar and nightclub on Water Street/Green Street/Kelley Square , etc was packed. After the concert I went to Jillian's on Grove Street and they were still pretty packed for it being almost close to last call...

Paulie, my days of 400pm drinking....... a.k.a. as happy hour......have passed a few years ago.....and I think they were long ago outlawed........didnt the pols in their infinite wisdom outlaw so called Happy Hours in Mass.......and then some enterprising local establishment owner came up with a new term for it......."Attitude Adjustment Hour"........when everyone pours out of the office buildings at 500pm on friday........heads to the local saloon.....has a few pops.........

Anonymous said...

I never said anything about Happy Hour..I just said that at 4PM or so that Water Street was as quiet as mouse:>)

I was at Gilreins so-so crowd..got stood up by one..but the right one showed:>)..good Blues Band at Gilly's last night

I think the near riot at Suney's turned into the shooting at Golden Pizza later at 3AM..."City On The Move"

Bill Randell said...

TO BAD THERE ARE NOT SECURITY CAMERAS IN THIS AREA

Anonymous said...

it was bad Bill outside Suney's last night...word is that this is the second time in (2) months that this has happened...and the pole barrell that got ripped off the pole two weeks back was on a Saturday night...I had 4-5 guys just hanging on their cars last night eating pizza at 2:30AM..this is hoss sheet..and I won't put up with it much longer..my family owned a pub for 50+ years and we never had this crap..and it was in a real entertainment zone - Inman Square, Cambridge, MA

I have my moles checking to see if the problem at Golden was related..I think it was..the crowd was 100+ and it just moved up Chandler for food.

All this work on Chandler aint worth it if every step we take forward we get bounced back ten by so much recklessness from other business.

Late night (post bar closings) have posed nothing but troubles in the City of Worcester. Kennedy Fried Chicken, Green Street Pizza??

If you want to serve food at 2:00AM you should be required to have a police detail.
