Stealing anothers phrase.."is it just me" or is anyone else tiring of this posturing re CXS expansion and the need for a new roadway between Shrews St and Franklin St when Putnam Lane disappears.
The fact of teh matter is that the State is buying CSX;s railway rights and as a result CSX will be relocating their RR yard to Worcester. The state will pay CXS for the RR right of way. If CSX has to pony up $20M for a bridge to replace Putman Lane then the buyouy price of teh RR rights will increase accordingly. Probably somewhere in the area of $25 to $30M b/c CSX is NOT a NOn profit and for them to realize $20 to build the roadway they have to make $30M and pay their taxes on it leaving them $20M.
What the Beacon Hill gang does not want people to hear in this day and age is that the state has to pony up more money to make the deal a reality.
CSX is not like the city. If they are going to have to build a bridge, they know exactly where the money is coming from to build it and how much it will cost, long before they start talking (and dreaming) about it. Worc may well get its Skyway Bridge given what is being said about the scope of this CSX project.
Once they come to an agreement about a bridge, then some folks will want a Zakim Style edifice.
Build it as high as possible b/c when the low income housing situation in Worc becomes unbearable for me, I;ll need a good local place to jump from. Thanx.

IMHO, the T&G decided not to cover this tour because they didn't want to give the "silly bloggers" more fodder. LOL
