City Manager O'Brien

Few years back, I remember thinking "strong" mayor would be a good idea in Worcester, but I am not so sure anymore.  Thought this may be as good a time as any to point out what a good job our City Manager is doing and this may be one of his best weeks yet:

  1. Negotiate a PILOT with Clark.   Believe this is the 3rd on (Mass College of Pharmacy and WPI being the others)
  2. Check register going on-line
  3. Last week, or the week before, the RFP for the new Housing study was put on-line
  4. Administration public opposition to the repeal of 40B, realizing that this would result in even more no-lo housing in Worcester.

I agree w/you re: the city manager. Quietly and behind the scenes he has managed to extract pilot paymnets from Clark University. Excellent job mike.

Bit WHHOOOAAAAAAA. JUSt a god dam minute here..!!!!!

This has to all be put in perspective. Clark has been the beneficiary of 10's of millions of dollars of gov't money poured in into the Main South area in the last 15+ years. The 262,000 per yr payment wouldnt even pay the interest at 1% on my tax dollars that have been used to upgrade the Clark 'hood primarily for Clark's benefit.

Just a day ago I was beefing about the upgrades to Downing St that were done in 2009. I said Downing St has been made into the current gateway to Clark. NOW Clark will get to shut down the remainder of Downing St to as part of this pilot deal under the auspices that Dwoning St is dangerous b/c there is a dangerous grade to it where it traverses clarks campus. HORSE S+++!!!!! WHo the hell built the dorms and the library and the parking garage alongside Downing St. Clark created a situation that endangered their pedestrians and now the City has to close off a street b/c of it. Ill tell ya the neighborhood is going to be BS when this comes to pass. And I suppose the city will hold so called public hearings on the closure which decison has already been made behind the scenes. And since when, (esp. in Worc) is a street with a short somewhat steep grade to it deemed dangerous? We going to also close off streets in Tatnuck b/c W Tatnuch school is built on a hillside? The inconsistent logic escapes me.

Whats up next?? WPI has the steep section of Insitute Rd closed off b/c they have dorms and class rooms abutting it? Ditttoos for Holy Cross and College St ?? I mean WPI already got a section of West St shut down back in the mid 80's! Clark also got another section of a city street closed down from Downing to Maywood St years ago and name escapes me at the moment.

THEN THEN alot of this piolt money will be used to further enhance Clarks neighborhood including Crystal Park. I mean WPI did the same thing with their pilot payment deal and Institute park. How about I make a small pilot payment and my street gets resurfaced vs. all the work now being done On Mayor Obriens St.? Since when Do i get to dictate whwere my payments to the city get spent.

$6.7 million over 20 yrs.......so all Clark as to do is tap their millions in endowment money......put maybe $2.5M at into investments today to fund 262,000 over the next 20 years. So the real pilot payment is $2.5M not 6.7M.

This s/b an easy one for those who are even partially in tune with Worc's politcal scene but did anyone notice what person is not in the picture?

Warning: Possibly trick question....dont go with the most likely answer.

Hints it is not Barack Obrien nor Pilot Payment Payment Palmieri nor Willy Breault
