Philly Plan

The only substantial developments we have had downtown have included a TIF.  After  reading the newspaper today, I believe more then ever we need to establish a formal Philly Plan in the City of Worcester versus having to each one as a new negotiation.

If we had a formal Philly Plan in place:
  1. streamline the process
  2. take the politics out of the process (union versus non-union)

Todays Sunday paper is prima facia case for why there S/B NO SPECIAL treatemnt for anyone who wants to build in Worcester.

I mean who really cares about a 2 story medical building in the heart of the city. Didnt Medical City illustate the obvious. i.e. when people visit the hospital for even the smallest of ailments, they do not go shoppoing afterwards..............i mean esp if heaven forbid they're being treated for cancer.

Bill the CC will never go for a Philly Plan for just the reason you stated....... i.e. they cant meddle with /control it............therefore it will never happen.............the same reason a Nat'l sales tax will never replace the income tax.....i.e. congress cant F+++ with/control consumption if EVERYTHING is taxed. They would never, ever cede such power to control people.

And now I will say it agin with emphasis added........... a 2 story building in the heart of a supposedly newly revitalized DT speaks volumes to the worthless of land in DT Worcester...which worthelss is caused b/c there is no demand for such land unless the taxpayers pony for part of the deal. I mean we have to subsidize even a mere 2 story building just to close the deal. And lets us not forget the $25M freebie parkign garage that came with CS in order to attain labor peace.

Maybe I missed but i didnt see the dough bpys name in that article...............i had to hav emissed it. Mike OPrien is becoming more and more overly politicized as his carreer as CM continues onward. Downing St debacle..........assessors office debacle...........now this TIF BS..........God knows what we dont know about what goes on at city hall.

Without a Philly Plan not new large private commercial project wll get done in Worcester.

The only thing that will be done is 1) non-profit or commercial developement that is highly subsidized (WBDC).

One of the reasons the CC may never actually offer a Philly Plan is that they would no longer have control of the type of labor used in a project getting the benefits of the Philly Plan.

Bill that wa smy point in saying they'd enver do b/c they lose control.

I mean come on these tifs have been politicized to the point they they are becoming payoffs to oganized labor.

Gov't money in the form of reduced/no taxes granted to dev'ers which then enbable to dev'er to hire union labor..........and Rushton says all labor can bid the job.....teh dev'ers RE taxes go down or go away for a period of time and all the rest of us end up picking up the slack for some one esles reduced taxes. jobs.............what joke

I sure hope that Mr Rushton and Mayor Barack Obrein buy their groceries at Stop & Shop as thats the only unionized sipermarket in the area and I sure hope thei landscapers auto repair mechanics are also unionized.

Jahn, can you please spell words correctly? It's very hard to follow what you are trying to say and it's difficuly to take anything you say seriously when you are writing the way you are.
