Melbourne Announcement

Listened to Ed Warnick on Peter Blute this morning.   He can not make the Melbourne announcement today, but it will be announced soon.  Please note he did not say Melbourne, but I am 99.99% sure that is the new destination.

Could West Palm also be in the cards?

Melbourne would be good, but I'd say West Palm Beach would be way better!!

One more thing Bill; did you attend the official signing ceremony this morning?

Ed Warnick sounded very upbeat about Worcester airport. I would not be surprised if two additional destinations are announced. Does anyone know how Worcester does compared to the other cities that Direct Air flies from? Ed has hinted in past radio interviews on WTAG & WCRN that Worcester is one of their best cities but that could be the same thing he tells other cities that he visits?

Is it unreasonable for me to ask if after all the photos opppzzz in teh next few daize re: the airport, if Massport will lay out a set of DEFINTIVE PLANS AND OBJECTIVES and hopefully define success for the airport?

This deal has been a brewin' for months if not years, so I expect MP to hit the ground running. No excuses about the need to get their proverbial feet under the desk as they've been in charge up there for about 10 years already. The rubber will hit the runway on July 1, I assume. Just dont give us any Trojan horse surprises...!!!!!!

Someone on the radio said this morning (Jimbo I think) that we are on track this year to double the number of flights at the airport, as we've had as mnay flights up to June, 2010 as we ahd for all of 2009. I am assming here he's talking about a calendar year, not that it makes all that much difference?

What wasnt said was what kind of flights? I am hoping we're not talking pilot school touch touch n goes? Not unlike Worc's population/census count, one has to look at the quality of the population of flights as well as the quantity.

MOB said this morning that the city is getting $17M in cash AND LAND HUH?? I do not understand? We're getting to keep land that we already own and then counting it as rec'd from Massport?

Bill if I buy 5 tracts of land from you and then when all the dust settles I still retain two of them are the two I get back really a gain? I goota Google "Bush Fuzzy Math" & see what comes up on that one

Once again we need to see a real settelment statement, just like one gets when they buy a house. This would be a nice easy little T&G piece to see what we really got from the sale. I esp want to know how EXACTLY how much cold CASH the city was enriched?

Show me the numbers. I am from Missouri as I have been drinking the Worc Kool Aid for too long. I do not want waht turns out to be anotehr Worc/Massport impossible mission up there.

Your assigment Mr Randell, should you decide to accept it, is to obtain a true accounting of this sale. Please keep in mind this is not the "accountingless" Exec Office of Neighborhoods Srvices. Should you decide to accept this mission, The Jahn will deny any knowledge of your actions and/or your existence on thsi planet. Good luck!!!!

right after central mass chronicles they had ed freni and andy davis w/ lt gov tim up at the airport.

jahn brings up a good point about #'s

in the interview lt gov stated at the airport's heyday in the 80's we had 350,000 passengers a year and then stated direct air has surpassed 100,000. question is is that 100,00 for 2010 or 100,00 passengers since direct air started?

I believe Worcester is Direct Air's top city as far as passenger loads. They have remained consistent and have had very few low loads. I can't see them dropping Sanford as the Disney crowd are their biggest customers next to the snow birds. One of Allegiants biggest problems with ORH was the FBO. To my understanding, they will be coming under new management and will hopefully become more accomodating to potential customers. It will be interesting to see what the next few months bring. Massport has done a good job keeping their plans for ORH under wraps.
