Sacramento HUD Audit

FInds problems.

Cant wait to see the results of the Worcester HUD audit.  Working with Neighborhood Services (EONS) with the NRSA program, I can only imagine there will be recommendations regarding the sloppy accounting.  It has to be one of the worst accounting systems, or should I say lack thereof, that I have ever seen.

I have to wonder if EONS is in charge of disbursing money themselves or if they just approve the disbusement and then give authorization to the city treasuer to hand out the disbursemnts and perform the nec. the bookkeeping and bean counting.

Anyone ever notice how when certain municipal statistics are favorable, everyone steps up and claims credit for the favorable outcome, but when the stats are unfavorable no one steps up and takes the blame.

Did anyone cath Nick K yesterday, Sunday June 20th? I quote "...Worc's fiscal house remains very sound..." Saint Nicholas, my friend, surely you jest. A sound fiscal house, relative to what Springfield or Chelsea?

Mike Obrien has done a good job, but the city is so upside down with unfunded liablities that your above statement is misleading, if not completley wrong. The biggest elephants in the room are unfunded pension and health ins. for retired city empoloyees. Now the health ins. problem may go away when Obama Care completely rears its ugly head 6 to 10 yrs. from now when private ins companies no longer exist and Washington is paying for everyones health ins.

Our finacial position is the result of ever increasinng unfunded liablities that have accumulated for decades, so the ent state of affairs can not be blamed on incumbent city leaders....but by their actions ( or inactions) they just keep piling on the debt year after year.

Nick, if you were retiring and planning on drawing $3,000 per month from your retirment and your plan was only funded to the extent that you'd only be able to draw $1,000 per month, would you say that your fiscal house is sound? I do not think so.
