On a serious note I could save this $4.5:
- Privatize ORH and allow a company like AvPorts to take over ORH if they agree to take over the operating and debt service for 20 years.
- Privatize Green Hill and have a company like Johnson Gold take over Green Hill
- Privatize the DCU Center
- Hire a company like EduClean take over janitorial services at the public schools and any other public buildings that require janitorial services
- Stop giving anymore subsidies to Low Income Housing projects by that I mean no more waiving permitting fees, no more waiving water/sewer fees, no more grant monies, etc

How about if the Hand It Over Theater was taxable real estate. That's somewhere between $500,000 to $750,000 in lost tax revenue. more than enough to pay the interst and some of the note, too
I cannot believe our city fathers gave all these subsidies to the Hand It Over Theatre and then they are allowed to take a highly valued piece of of brand new property/real estate and stick into a non profit entity, thereby sticking it to the city. Should have been right in the agreemetn for all the subsidies that they cannot converty to non-profit status if they are going to be the recipients of Millions in city subsidies.
I cant seem to locate this little piece on the T&G website today (Sat.)...so I'll just type it in here ........
Per T&G: Dateline Boston
" The agency that oversees Logan Int'l Airport is considering layoffs & otehr cost cutting measures in an effort to trim $17M from its budget in anticipation of a drop in passenger traffic.
THe MPA is looking for ways to offset an expected 5 to 6% decline in passenger traffic in the 1st 6 months of of thsi years compared w/the same period in 2008.
The agency has already reduced its $377.7M spending plan for the 2009 fiscal year by 3,4%, or $13 M."
IMO this can only tranlste into another setback for MPA to ever take over Worc Airport. Read between teh lines. They are getting hit hard too...
Other ways to raise $4.5 million:
- profits from the ice-skating rink
- fines from the tax-payers who don't shovel the city's sidewalks
- a new fuel tax on Direct Air
- raise property taxes for the half dozen businesses still left in Worcester
- copyright the name "City of Worcester" and assess bloggers a fee of $100 per use
- raise city councilor pay by $410,000 each and have them donate the raise
- waive sewer connection fees for low-income housing builders and quadruple them for everyone else
Sorry anonymous but Sundays T&G is reporting under the Beacon Hil Rool Call in Sec A that Gov. Patrick pocket veto'ed a local option bill that would have "increased power of municiplaities to collect fines for violations of..........snow & ice removal laws..........teh measure allows commumities to place a lien....for outstanding fines allow municipalities to collect fines for certain infrctions including unshovled side walks."
So once again Worc's finest 11 appear to have it all Bass Akkwards. They locally legislatea new (side walk shoveling) with increased fines.......then they go to Beacon Hill and for legislation to enable them to collect the fines ( property liens) for those who dont pay.
So I guess it stands now you can be fined and ignore the ticket w/o fear of your property being liened. City has the power to assess but not collect the fine ( short of taking one to court?). AmI understanding this correctly??
Also from T&G: "Another provision exempts anyone...WHO IN GOOD FAITH...removes snow or ice from sidewalks abutting their property from liabilty for any personal injuries unless the alleged misconduct was gross negligence"
