Worcester Name Change

Manchester Airport had 4.5 million passengers last year, with their number 1 airline, SouthWest, having almost 2 million alone. Bottom line Manchester has the flights and the ability to pull from the Boston catchment market. The addition of Boston to their name can only help their business.

If we add Boston to our name and people look into ORH, they will find we have one airline 4 times per week to Sanford-Orlando. The emphasis, our number 1 priority, should be on additional airlines. The addition of Boston or changing our name to Logan West can not hurt, but it will not help to the degree it may help Manchester who have the underlying flights people are looking for.

The number one priority for ORH is more airlines.

Any idea what the proposed name change is that the airport commission is considering? It is reflected in their board minutes that they were going to approach the City Manager about a name change.

To be honest I have no idea, but I will try to get an answer.

March Minutes:

"A great deal of discussion occurred regarding the potential name change and the strategy to bring the issue forward. It was decided that Chairman Delehaunty will request a meeting with the City Manager to discuss the Commission's thoughts and to develop a strategy to make a potential recommendation to the public."

Although there was a great deal of discussion on the matter, the thoughts of the commision were not recorded.

Anyone hear what Jordan Levy had to say about the name change on his show yesterday? He thinks that the name change definitely will not change anything. I say that he is wrong. I happen to think that the name change will be of some success for ORH.

As stated on a news article I saw on CNN last night, more people are looking into flying into smaller airports as of late, since the larger airports are not getting them close enough to where they really want to go. They also stated that some airlines are wanting to use smaller aircrafts, so they can meet the demand for the passengers looking to land at airports like ORH.

Then there was something about "AirTaxis" where some businessman can call one up, and hop aboard. The airtaxi is obviously a very small aircraft, which will land you at airports like Sterling or Spencer. They will charge the customer approx. $1 per mile.

This could be a good thing for ORH.

A name change can not mask the fact that we do not have services that people want.. We need to increase the number of airlines, provide free parking, free wireless, better website and many other things before we worry about a name change.
